Tours currently being offered are:
Oak bay coastline and islands- From the Oak Bay marina paddle through the Chain islands eco reserve to see abundant bird life with magnificent views of the Olympic mountains and a great likelihood of encountering harbour seals. from 3 hours- to 6 hours with either a picnic lunch at Gyro Park beach or a mid-day break sipping coffee in the Cadboro Bay village. Saanich Inlet- From Brentwood bay paddle through a floating village toward Butchart Gardens, explore Todd inlet and stop for lunch at Mckenzie Bight. This area is protected and has abundant inter-tidal life such as sea stars, anemones and sea cucumbers,
glimpses of harbor seals and eagles are likely as we paddle past beautiful forested mountains. If you want a beautiful safe place for your kayaking adventure- the Saanich Inlet will not disappoint, Hikes can be added on to this option as there is a beautiful
loop hike on the Cascade trail from Mckenzie Bight. from 4- hours to 8 hours with short hike or long like to lookout options, multiple picnic locations and a convenient hop to Butchart or Butterfly Gardens as well as some incredible Oceanside restaurants and pubs.

Can anyone else smell a photo like this in their imagination or memory? The cold salt, crisp air, kelp leaves and damp driftwood on a pebble beach smell? There’s something about tiny coves like this one that I love. Contemplating where my little boat will end up since I don’t know how long I may be able to stay in Oak Bay. Put a mooring in somewhere? Give away all my possessions and aim for Hawaii? Maybe eventually…. More nighttime contemplations when I should be sleeping.

Last weekend I did a thing that felt like a really big deal to me. There was a hell of a lot of build up and anticipation and when it came down to it I just had to get s**t done. I needed to take my boat off the mooring it’s been sitting on in Ganges since I bought her and find her a new home (closer to my home) so I can start giving her the attention she deserves. I have done a fair amount of sailing- but not solo, and I’ve driven a boat or two, but not this big- and again never alone. The way the universe has literally and figuratively shoved me abruptly out of a comfortable place and forced me to grow lately has made my head spin. This little task- which I completed with perfect imperfection has already given me a lot of renewed faith in my ability to handle hard things. Both physical and emotional. Storms don’t last forever. Even though sometimes it feels like a long hard slog, if you’re already going through it- it’s better to keep your head up and face it and tell yourself you can do it, and just accept every wave that comes to rock you and know that every single one will make you better. Better at feeling and moving through the next one. Braver to face the next one. Anyways, I’m still exhausted and doing a late night ramble here but what I want to say is it’s never too late to grow in ways you’ve always dreamed of… I think that’s all I can muster for now. Dream on.

Hiya Saltspring and Victoria boater friends! I am slowly starting off my sailing journey and step one is fixing up my boat! I need help getting it from Ganges to Sidney for a haul out! My 1c Yanmar won’t start and my 2.5 kicker is also out of commission but probably not gutsy enough to get it where I need it to go…. If anyone would be up for an adventure/ possibly towing me in or lending an outboard for a weekend or any other ideas would be very much appreciated! Excited to get my little boat polished up and ready to sail the islands this summer!

ALSO- looking for a second RVYC member to help me get my membership application going! Pls message me if this is you and you would be willing to vouch for me!

Last year was one of the most beautiful golden snowey solstices I’ve ever had. This year we have record temperatures and not a hint of snow… I’m glad the days will be getting longer but part of will always long for a little snow this time of year just to make the winter feel complete. We didn’t get much snow when I was growing up so it’s always extra special and magical when it happens. Here’s some favourite shots of my solstice walk with last year!
