I feel like we all have those travel stories of moments of panic or chaos but they end up making a memory that you hold on to forever. In Portugal it was getting caught in the scariest thunderstorm I’ve ever seen and running in full flight mode so fast back to my hotel I thought my lungs were going to explode. It ends up being one of the first things I think about when reminiscing that trip.

In Melk, I forgot my souvenir bag in the bakery where I quickly bought this pastry. I rushed out so I wouldn’t lose my group. When I got back to my cruise ship I realized and I went marching back into town to see if I could find it and hopefully make it back to the boat in time.😅 The time I spent walking solo through the cobblestone streets of this charming little town to retrieve my bag (which I did get back) will be the memory I hold on to. Sometimes when things go “wrong” it’s just the universe pushing us to what’s really meant for our journey. I find this notion more obvious when I’m travelling. It’s like oh wasn’t expecting this, I’m excited to see where this takes me though!

Why can’t I be like this when I get back home? 🤣 Can anyone else relate?

🥖 The Story of Pinca: Croatia's Sweet Easter Bread 🥖

🌷🥚 Every holiday has its traditions, and the most memorable ones are those created around the family table. In Croatia, Easter breakfast is the most important meal that cannot go without ham, spring onion and hard-boiled eggs, and the queen of the holiday table – Pinca - a sweet, fragrant bread, traditionally made at Easter time. 🥚🌷

🐣 Pinca is prepared throughout Croatia and of course, almost every family has its own secret recipe that is passed down from generation to generation. It is assumed that this delicacy originates from the era of the Venetian Republic. Pinca was traditionally made from white flour, eggs, sugar, milk, and fat, with grated lemon or orange peel, rum, and a local dessert wine, Prošek, which was added to the dough.🐣

🪺🐰 Today, many Croatian families still cherish the tradition of taking Pinca to the church for blessing on Holy Saturday, along with other food served on Easter, and giving it to loved ones as a sign of good wishes. 🐰🪺

Also visited a saffron farm today, was a unique learning experience and now I want to grow some of my own 😆 39 euros for the little vile at the end. We all know saffron is the worlds costliest spice but really if you use it properly and the correct amount it’s not as crazy as you would think 😅 The best way to use saffron in cooking is to first grind with a mortar and pestle and then add drops of warm (not hot) milk until it’s just liquidy enough that you can pour it out. Add it in as close as you can to the end of your recipe. Saffron lasts longer when stored away from light. The little plastic containers we see saffron being sold in at home are no good according to the farmer, they’re not air tight and the exposure to light cuts the shelf life from 2-3 years to about 6 months. Also, tons of people out there selling fake saffron. It should always be deep ruby red and never buy it in powder form… they will literally sell you brick dust and those little brown hairs you find at the end of a cob of corn in India and you won’t know until you get home 😅 unless you know what to look for!!
