LBNT guide highlight: Tara Warkentin
Tara grew up on Cortes Island, off the coast of Vancouver Island. A childhood of peering into tide pools, sailing, and exploring nearby mountains gave her a love of ecology and adventure. She chased her passion for the mountains to Squamish, where she spent all her spare time skiing, hiking and climbing. Tara is an avid telemark skier, and ski patrols each winter with her heels free. She has spent the past 5 years working with youth in the outdoors, aiming to make outdoor adventure more accessible to youth from diverse backgrounds. She is currently melding her passions for science and working with people by studying to be a midwife.

LBNT guide highlight: Ian Cruicksank
Ian has been fascinated by the natural world on Vancouver Island from an early age growing up in Coast Salish territory, where he guided nature walks for Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary and the Victoria Natural History Society for 10 years. He brings a background in biology, having studied at the University of Victoria and done biology fieldwork throughout BC, and for the past 6 years as a settler in Nuu-chah-nulth territory on the west coast of Vancouver Island. His knowledge of birds and their vocalizations is widely appreciated, and with his keen interest in all of the natural world, he will show you a well-rounded picture of local plants, mammals, sea life, and maybe a slug or a frog, too!

LBNT Guide Highlight: Rachel Stewart-Dziama
Rachel was born in Tofino and raised in Ucluelet, eventually leaving for Victoria on the South Island to complete a BSc (Honours) in Geography and Anthropology with a minor in Applied Ethics. When not guiding for LBNT, Rachel also works for an NGO researching best practices for marine management, advocating for sustainable shipping, and engaging with Indigenous and coastal communities. We are very proud to have her on our team and perhaps you’ll be lucky enough to have her as one of your guides during your next Tofino adventure!
