Thanks to the County for installing these signs in 2024 on Twp Rd 434. They saved the lives of countless Plains Garter snakes.
Thank you to everyone who slowed down and avoided the snakes warming themselves on the roadside.
One possible improvement would be to install motion activated solar powered warning lights on the signs to further raise awareness to approaching traffic.

Terry Gabert at a bison “rubbing stone” (one of three) on his 320 acre property bordering the Meeting Creek. This property is located 3 miles NW of the hamlet, home of the historic 1913 Canadian Northern Railway train station, two grain elevators and a linear park which follows the old rail bed.
Terry and his wife Faith have signed an agreement with the Nature Conservancy to maintain, in perpetuity, this pastureland in its undisturbed native state.

Thermopsis rhombifolia, also known as Golden Beans.

Buffalo Beans in blossom. Early ranchers took this as a sign in spring that grasses were mature enough that cattle could be turned out on summer pasture.

The name ‘buffalo bean’ shows us the First Nations Peoples’ knowledge of phenology. They used its flowering time to indicate that buffalo bulls were ready for the spring hunt.
