Congratulations to the St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC) on the grand reopening of the newly revitalized Brown’s Bay Beach and Picnic Area today, June 14th, 2024.

What a beautiful place to welcome tourists and residents in South Eastern Ontario!

The completed project brings:
A new bayfront building to Brown’s Bay Beach and Picnic Area
Accessible, gender-neutral washrooms and change rooms.
An area for food and beverage service.
A new perched beach area and a new and improved septic system.

Led by The Honourable Bob Runciman, Chair of the St. Lawrence Parks Commission, the re-opening ceremony also included remarks from local MPP Steve Clark, Mayor of Front of Yonge Township, Roger Haley and CEO and General Manager of St. Lawrence Parks Commission, Hollee Kew.

Funded through investment by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sport (MTCS) and bolstered by the St. Lawrence Parks Commission (SLPC)’s Internally Restricted Reserve, SLPC’s oldest and most iconic park is the first beach to undergo revitalization. This initiative is part of planned upgrades to all parks, fulfilling the strategic objectives set out in SLPC’s strategic plan, Strengthening our Foundation for a Sustainable Future (2021-2026).

A recent report by Deloitte Canada reveals that 74% of Canadians plan to travel domestically this summer, with an average expenditure of $2,405 on transportation and lodging. This surge in local travel reflects a strong desire to make up for missed travel opportunities, driven by a preference for sustainable and local experiences. Despite economic uncertainties, Canadians are prioritizing their vacations, focusing on destinations within their own country.

Gen Z and Millennials are also the most supportive of sustainable and regenerative tourism, seeking environmentally sustainable travel options like low carbon footprints, renewable energy sources, and EV charging stations. They are willing to pay more for such experiences.

The global 2SLGBTQI+ travel market is valued at more than US$200B annually. Canadian destinations are well-positioned to grow their share of this market. But in order to be successful, destinations and operators must ensure that 2SLGBTQI+ customers feel welcome, accepted, and served in a way that exceeds their expectations and accommodates their needs.

To support efforts in developing market-ready products, CGLCC’s Navigating 2SLGBTQI+ Diversity and Inclusion in the Tourism Industry helps tourism-based businesses learn about 2SLGBTQI+ inclusion and how to effectively understand, value, and serve 2SLGBTQI+ customers and employees.

So, how do we identify ourselves on a global scale?

A question that repeatedly came up during the summit was
What is the culinary identity of Canada?
Depending on who you asked, there were various responses.

Industry partners and operators, we'd love to hear your thoughts.
In one succinct sentence, what do you believe is the cultural identity of Canada?

We highly recommend this event for anyone in the F&B landscape, particularly those looking to offer experiential travel to tourists.
Thank you for an amazing event. See you in 2025, Culinary Tourism Alliance
