01/08/2024

Effective August 1, 2024, the Great Escape Trail is now accessible, with crossing allowed over the Sewage Treatment Plant Road. However, the Sewage Treatment Plant Road and the access from Bucksaw Ridge Trail will stay closed until the completion of the ongoing project. Half of the parking lot at the bottom of jail hill road will be open for parking to access the trails.

The Sewage Treatment Plant Road and Bucksaw Ridge Trail access will continue to be closed until the end of the project in Jnauary 2026 for upgrades to the Grande Cache Wastewater Treatment Facility. This measure ensures public and worker safety in the active construction area. Cooperation in avoiding closed areas is appreciated, with signs and barricades marking access points and closures. To view the trail map, visit https://mdgreenview.ab.ca/sewage-treatment-plant-road-closed-but-great-escape-trail-open/.

Please continue to watch for updates.

Welcome racers, visitors, support and organizing crews to Grande Cache for the 2024 Canadian Death Race!

With the August Long Weekend approaching, there are numerous regions in the province that are under fire advisories, restrictions, and bans. Please ensure that you verify the fire status of your destination and be prepared for any restrictions.

Grande Cache is in the Edson Fire Area, where a FIRE RESTRICTION is in effect. This restriction allows safe campfires in designated campgrounds and on private land but prohibits wood campfires on public lands. Therefore, under this FIRE RESTRICTION, no campfires will be allowed at Tent City. Only approved gas or propane cooking appliances, portable BBQ’s—propane or briquettes, and portable propane fire pits will be allowed at Tent City.

Please refer to the Wildfire Forest Area Updates at https://srd.web.alberta.ca/edson-area-update and Alberta Fire Bans at https://www.albertafirebans.ca/App.

Please note that the road to Tent City has recently been under construction and 97 Street, 98 Street, and 104 Avenue are now open, providing access to the Grande Cache Campground, the Grande Cache Golf & Country Club and the Ball Diamond area (Tent City). Please use caution and drive carefully and have a safe and wonderful long weekend.

Thankful for the rain we received yesterday! With the much cooler temperatures and the abundance of rain there was no keeping dry in the forest with our Jr. Adventurers. We ended up moving inside and adapting many of the activities. The kids tried being ants and making scent trails, learned about how owls feed their young, hunted for "worms" as flocks of birds, practiced nature journaling and more!

The next Jr. Adventurers will take place August 15 from 9am-3pm. Call the Tourism Centre to register your child (Grades K-3).
