Many people think it is all fun and games when we travel as travel agents. While we enjoy our time away, it is not all beaches and margaritas (although I definitely do enjoy a good spicy margarita).

I am in Cancun and the Riviera Maya this week touring hotels so that our guests know what to expect when they travel here. I’ve met with our transfer drivers and toured 14 resorts all in the first two days!

I’m looking forward to spending the next few days with the amazing and her team at & really exploring and experiencing their amazing resorts.

Friday I am back on the road for a sneak peak at the all new and 3 more beautiful properties followed by my last 2 more resorts Saturday before heading home on Sunday.

Total resorts to be toured this trip - 23!

You forget your headphones, left the book you planned to pack on the coffee table, and are sitting at your resort paranoid about leaving the hair dryer plugged in.

There’s nothing worse, in my opinion!

Here’s my day before travel checklist that I’ve perfected to make sure I don’t forget anything:

Start prepping a week before: I start setting things aside for my trip, but I hold off on packing until a day or two before, so I remember what’s in my suitcase.

Do a round of editing: Right before I pack, I edit to make sure I’m packing what I’ll actually need. I also check the weather forecast where I’m headed to make sure I’m prepared.

Carry-on check: I double- and triple-check my carry-on for my documents, my AirPods, and my lip chap—basically everything I’ll need on the actual flight (chapped lips on a four-hour flight are the worst!).

Travel admin: I call my credit card company, download airline apps, make sure I have a copy of my boarding pass, etc.

Your week before travel checklist: Family edition

✅ Make special requests ahead of time for adjoining rooms, cots, cribs, etc.

✅ Request early check-in so you don’t have to wait around if you’re landing before the standard 3 PM check-in.

✅ Pack a secret stash of surprise goodies for the littles for special moments and good behavior.

✅ Audit your bags to make sure you’re not missing any of the little things like the kids’ toothpaste or their favorite hat.

Sunday was spent onboard the Celebrity Solstice and while not as wow and flashy as the Celebrity Edge, the ship was beautiful with lots of truly unique spaces.

The Celebrity Solstice is home to The Lawn Club. This beautiful outdoor space is truly a unique feature for a cruise ship. It features a 1/2 acres of real grass and a hot glass blowing space with demonstrations for guests.

🤩 Wow! Just Wow! 🤩

I spent Saturday onboard the Celebrity Edge when she made her first ever port in Vancouver and I thought I knew what to expect but she blew me away!

The Edge started sailing in 2018 with just over 2,900 passengers and looks like she was just launched yesterday. The spaces are spread out and stunning with lots of great places to sit and socialize and some great smaller spaces to connect with a close group.

When it comes to dining, the main dining room has been split into 4 beautiful restaurants, each with its own theme and menus that changes throughout your cruise. There are 5 unique specialty restaurants and 2 additional dining rooms, one exclusive to suite guests and one for those in Aquaclass.

April is flying by, isn’t it?

But hey, what a ride it‘s been! Feeling major gratitude for my awesome clients I got to plan with this past month.

The travel side of social media can be a little bit deceptive.

Everyone’s always taking these fabulous trips, but how do you decide what will be a good trip for you with so much information out there?

Take my client P, for example. They were scrolling through their feed and stumbled on a hotel that was "suggested" for them. The photos looked stunning and they decided they were interested in booking there for their upcoming beach vacation.

I got on the case right away. 🔎

Almost immediately I realized this property wouldn’t be a good fit for my client who likes to have lots of dining options and prioritizes a good swimmable beach above everything else.

I took this property as a starting point and ended up recommending two others that had some of the good elements of the property my client found, but also included a few more of the things I knew it was lacking because mediocre food just won’t cut it for my clients and neither will avoiding swimming in the ocean!

All this is to say, take what you see in your feeds as inspo, but always do the research to make sure the destinations and hotels you find will fit your unique travel needs.

You know that mad dash in the morning to the resort pool to pick out the best lounger?

You pick a lounger, and you think it’s the one, but nobody told you that it’s right beside the pool DJ or the water polo, where it’s loud, busy, and overcrowded, so you’re second-guessing your pick all day.
