Thai Yoga Massage (also known as "Thai massage," "passive yoga" or "nuad bo'rarn"in Thai) is a deep, yet slow and gentle healing practice, combining elements of Shiatsu and yoga. Pressure is often applied in a rocking motion to ease you into blissful relaxation. The body is stretched to a comfortable limit and blocked energy is freed, leaving you feeling light and refreshed. Thai Yoga Massage is both a physical and energetic healing modality and a mutual meditation for the giver and receiver. Although an everyday part of of life in Thailand, Thai Yoga Massage actually originated in India. Its founder, Jivaka Kumarbhaccha--a contemporary of the Buddha--was a doctor of Ayurvedic medicine and the Buddha's personal physician. Although Jivaka never travelled to Thailand himself, the spread of Indian Buddhism transported his teachings to Southeast Asia. Yoga's influence on Thai Yoga Massage is unmistakable, as are its healing effects. Some of the many benefits of Thai Yoga Massage may include:
-feeling limber all over
-ease in formerly creaky joints
-lower levels of stress
-relief from shoulder, back or neck pain
-a better functioning immune system
-general relaxation and utter bliss
-a feeling of connection between body/mind/emotions
-relief from headaches and sinus pain
-ease for digestive disorders
Thai Yoga Massage is performed on a mat on the floor with the receiver wearing loose, comfortable clothing.
