El Salvador is probably one of the most overlooked nations in Latin America. Yet Brenda decided to go and reported she had a "fantastic trip. The weather was good, sunny and 32 degrees. It was a little cooler in the mountains.
I felt very safe. No one had any security issues. Food was good. I love pupusas. Love all of the tropical fruit. There is great coffee. And, there is lots of good ice cream. And, affordable.
One of my favourite memories is the day before the trip started. 15 minutes after introducing myself to Kate and Joni I was off to La Palma to go to the Fernando Llort museum. The local buses are amazing.
The group stayed in a variety of hotels and resorts. I was happy with all of them. I loved the igloos (adobe like cottages). The volcano hike was good. A few complained it was too difficult. Everyone made it to the crater and back down.
I loved the optional waterfall hike the last day. We got to go swimming. There were quite a few opportunities to swim. We got to help measure and check on some turtles.
The tour leader was excellent. The group overall were good. I had some good laughs with my room mate."

QUESTION: as I was talking to a client about an expedition cruise to Ellesmere Island in the Canadian Arctic, I noticed there is a mountain range there called the United States Range. So I want to know... With Donald Trump attempting to rename geographical features, does Canada get to rename this mountain range? And if so, what should we call it?.

A place’s true rhythm is never found in its grand monuments or bustling streets. It reveals itself in the spaces in between, in quiet alleys and dawn markets, in the sound of footsteps fading into mist. It’s only when we slow down, when we let ourselves linger in those silences, that we begin to truly see. And it’s there, in those fleeting moments, that a place leaves its mark on us—echoing long after we’ve left, like a song we never quite forget

Here's a book I look forward to reading: The Intrepid list - 100 uncommon experiences to change the way you travel.

Published by the book highlights what makes travelling with them such a wonderful experience.

Watch my blog as I highlight some of these - from Iceland to Ireland, Japan to Jordan and Marrakech to Maria Island and many places and experiences in between.

THANK YOU !

There aren't many places in the world where you can drive an ice road so when I realized I could cross the Ottawa River by car on the ice, I went for it.

It's been a long time coming but finally the is open for skating (at the same time as I have time to drive to ).
So I dug up my old speed skates - they date back to high school - and realized they could do with a bit of TLC. After an application of oil I decided to do a few rounds on my local skating rink.
Next thing I know I am teaching Ed, an immigrant from the Philippines, how to skate. He got the hang of it pretty quick!

I have been lucky enough to have travelled to Antarctica twice, but down there I never experienced the polar conditions I experienced here in Toronto on a recent hike. I walked along the beach, a walk I have done many times in better weather* This time things were quite different - ice covered much of the beach, and it was hard to see where land ended and water started. I blundered through thin ice twice, getting my feet wet. But all the while I had a great time, feeling like I explored an alien world. There were ice volcanoes and beautiful patterns in the ice and the sand, and I had the place to myself.

1. polar explorer me
2. sun rising over Lake Ontario
3. creek
4. Ice bridge I had to crawl over, after crashing through the ice to the right of it
5. Three metre high ice volcano
6. Swirling patterns in the sand
7. What looked like a safe sandbar by which to cross a creek was in fact sand covering thin ice, as witnessed by the hole in the ice left by me
8. A final hurdle, a creek too wide to cross

* I won’t divulge the exact location as I do not want you to try this
