TRISH BOYUM ~ gets up close and personal in a wild world!
Photographer Trish Boyum's 20,000+ images taken in the Great Bear Rainforest on the central coast of B.C. are an inspiration to renew our connectivity with the natural world.
While wildlife photographers join Trish and her husband Eric on their boat primarily to see and photograph bears, wolves and whales, many discover, as Trish has, that it’s the soul stirring temperate rainforest itself that provides the most evocative images.
Most of the photos being offered were taken in the Great Bear Rainforest in the territories of the Heiltsuk People of Bella Bella, the Kitasoo Xai’xais People of Klemtu and the Gitga’at People of Hartley Bay, with the photos of the poles from Haida Gwaii. The influences of Indigenous values have long been felt and respected by Trish and reflected in how she conducts herself while taking photos.
Amidst the soul stirring land and seascapes of the Great Bear Rainforest, it is the trust of the animals that she finds most inspiring. It is here in these lands of immeasurable beauty, Trish has been taught the best lessons of her life, by bears, in the very best ways. While photographers may generally agree that “good light is what makes the best photo”, Trish believes that her best photos comes from trust, respect and being open to the lessons that the natural world provides.
When immersed in nature, camera in hand, Trish is still surprised by how quickly thoughts of life’s challenges are replaced with the calm and healing that this connectivity with the natural world brings her.
