We are back in the office after a wonderful two weeks in Europe!

We’ve been so busy enjoying our time in Europe it’s hard to keep up with posts! Our final destination of our cruise was Budapest and was definitely the highlight!! We did morning tour of “Buda” or also known as Castle Hill, and afternoon tour of “Pest” also known as the flat side of Budapest.

We had a great day in Vienna with beautiful weather! We opted for an 18 km guided bike ride through the city, stopping to see some highlights. We had 3 guides with us to make sure we were safe around pedestrians and cars. The bicycles AMA Waterways has onboard are excellent quality, well-maintained and comfortable to ride. The other included tours were a Vienna sightseeing tour by bus and foot.

As this was an overnight port in Vienna, shuttle buses were provided through the afternoon and evening for those who wanted to see more of Vienna on their own with maps provided.

Dinner featured Wiener Schnitzel and Apple Strudel for dessert. It was all so good!

Morning clouds gave way to clear sunny skies for our arrival to Weissenkirchen, Austria! Some chose a 33 km bike ride excursion, or a mountain hike to a castle, while we chose a visit and walking tour to the of Durnstein and Melk Abbey with an incredible sunset. What a beautiful day it was! On Friday, we arrive in Vienna for our overnight stay. Excited to see this beautiful city!

Did you know all your excursions are included on an AMA Waterways river cruise? They have a variety of tours available every port, from gentle walking tours or for the active people hiking tours, and biking tours with their bikes on board! You can also sign out a bike for your own leisurely ride. No extra charge.

Despite the cloudy, drizzly weather we had an awesome full day excursion to Cesky Krumlov in the Czech Republic. So much history in the UNESCO World Heritage site. Virtually untouched during WWII, this charming town is well-preserved. After a walking tour, we had lunch at a local restaurant and it was delicious! Back to Linz, we had a brief walking tour and then walked some more on our own before heading back to our ship to enjoy hot chocolate on our balcony.

We left Vilshofen at 11:30 am for a leisurely sail to Passau, going through one lock. The weather cleared for a perfect afternoon stroll through the old town of 5,500 residents. But when university is in full swing, 13,000 students attend! Such a charming city! Another lovely dinner on the ship! Tomorrow, we head to Linz for a full day tour that includes the Czech Republic.

We arrived in Munich October 20 for our overnight stay prior to our cruise. We like to do this for our cruise groups as well, to give everyone a chance to rest up after overnight flights.

Today, we boarded the train to Vilshofen, a very small town in Bavaria. Just an easy 10 minute walk to the ship.

Our ship is lovely! Tomorrow, we set sail for Passau. Now we get acquainted with our ship and fellow travellers.
