NOT DEAD
In response to a published Obituary in an American Newspaper, in a cable sent from London, England back to the United States, Mark Twain wrote; "The rumours of my death are greatly exaggerated."
I received a welcome call from a dear Quebec based Pastoral friend yesterday. I could hear the relief in his voice when I said "Hello". He proceeded to explain to me that he had heard from his son that I was dead. I said, "let me check.... no, I'm good." I looked around, "still the same." The aches and pains of moderate age may remind us daily that something is stalking us. This may bring some discouragement as our diminishing capacities affect our lifestyle choices. Now one is suggesting that I should run to the fields and bring the Cows in for milking anymore. And every physical effort seems to be an uphill climb. Still, this time of life does help us focus on more important issues in life, faith, family... But dead? No, that "good night" has not taken root.
My friend explained that I may have been confused with a Quebec man of faith, who went home to be with the Lord. My friend then expressed some very kind words to me about our friendship, and our shared Ministry. I was pleased to truthfully reciprocate how proud my wife and I are to know my friend and his family.
From time to time, it is good to hear good things about yourself .... when you are alive. So, like the notable Humourist, I can report via this instantaneous platform, that the rumours of my death are greatly exaggerated.... so far.
Takeaway: I will endeavor to pursue the encouragement of the living. WOULD YOU DO THIS FOR ONE PERSON TODAY? THEN , DO THIS FOR ANOTHER PERSON TOMORROW? Encouragement is free to give! Encouragement honours the giver and the gifted, so let's pass it on.
No friends!
I AM NOT IN HEAVEN: Just Waterloo.
I AM NOT DEAD, just 64.
