It’s baaaaaaaack! After two years on pause, one of Western Canada’s BEST outdoor soccer tournaments is back. The KYSA Slurpee Cup will be held in Kamloops, BC May 21-23, 2022. We are so proud to once again be a part of this awesome event as the tournament’s accommodation partner. Early bird registration is now available through until February 1, 2022. General registration is open until April 1, 2022. This is truly one of Canaccom’s favourite tournaments. We have been sending teams to Kamloops for the KYSA Slurpee Cup for over 14 years and we are so glad to see it back up and running!! congratulations!

SAVE THE DATE// The Mac's U18AAA Hockey Tournament is back!

December 27, 2021-January 2, 2022 - Mark your calendars!

First held in 1978, this time-honoured event has become one of the most desired and competitive tournaments for midget aged players in the world.

Thousands of spectators are anticipated to fill the seats of the participating arenas, including scouts from a number of high level Junior teams and a select number of professional leagues.

Many players who have participated in the Mac's U18AAA Hockey Tournament have gone on to play in the NHL.

Canaccom is truly honoured to be a part of this incredibly prestigious event as the tournament's official travel services partner.

SPORTS AND KIDS// I have said it before, and I'll say it again - put your kids in sports and you will change their lives.

I believe one of the most commonly overlooked benefits of encouraging young people to participate in sports is the mentorship that sports offer. Some of the most influential people in a child's life are their teachers, their coaches, their leaders. People, other than their parents, that they can look up to, trust and rely on. People that believe in them, encourage them and help them to be the best versions of themselves.

KIDS IN SPORT// ACTION REQUIRED!

Something needs to change, and fast.

In a recent study produced by the Canadian Women & Sport, in partnership with E-Alliance and Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities, and thanks to funding from Sport Canada - 1 in 4 Canadian girls (aged 6-18) who participated in sport at least weekly pre-pandemic are not committed to returning to sport once COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

This translates to over 350,000 Canadian girls.

Key Findings:

➡️ 1 in 4 Canadian girls (aged 6-18) are not committed to returning to sport post-pandemic

➡️ The top three negative impacts as reported by girls whose sport participation has decreased due to COVID-19 included: mental health, physical health, social connection

➡️ 93% of girls (aged 6-18) who participated in organized sport at least weekly prior to the COVID-19 pandemic decreased their participation during the pandemic

"Girls playing sports is not about winning gold medals. It's about self-esteem, learning to compete and learning how hard you hae to work in order to achieve your goals" - Jackie Joyner Kersee

Parents, talk to your daughters and remind them about all the good things that sports have to offer. Encourage them to play a sport that interests them. Encourage them to join a team. Encourage them to play recreationally if they don't enjoy hard core competition.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, put your kids in sports and it will change their lives.

SPORTS AND KIDS// Put your kids in sports and you will change their lives.

Sports offer people, ESPECIALLY young people, so much. Sports not only help to encourage young people to be more physically active, but they also help to teach them valuable skills and life lessons that they will carry with them for the rest of their lives. Sports also help young people make new friends, have fun, learn to be a team member, learn about fair play, learn to respect authority and rules, improve self-esteem...the list goes on.

And not all sports have to cost a fortune. It's true that some sports are expensive and not every family can afford to put their kids into certain programs. But that doesn't mean that sports are unattainable for families on a budget. Parents can seek out less costly sports such as basketball, swimming, soccer and track. Parents can also invest in used sporting equipment to help with the cost. And of course, teams can lean on Canaccom to help with savings on the travel side of things. It's our job to help save teams and their families time and money!

There are few parents that look back on their children's lives and think "sports were a waste of time".

GET BACK IN THE GAME// You're ready to play, we're ready to serve!

We are only one week into July and teams and groups alike are already eager to get started with their travels! We have baseball teams going to Edmonton and Kelowna, soccer teams going to Vancouver and a group of friends going to Banff for a fun weekend away. It's exciting and encouraging to see people willing and able to travel again.

We want to thank our clients, new and old, for trusting in Canaccom to attend to your travel needs. After a long 15 month pause, we couldn't be happier to be back in the game with you!

RETURN TO PLAY// The past 15 months of pandemic lockdown has been tough on everyone, there is no question. But I think that it has been especially difficult for kids and youth in particular who spent a significant portion of that time removed from social environments, and activities, including, sports.

Consider this...

In nearly a year and a half:

👉 there was an entire generation of kids who were not introduced to sports for the first time,
👉another generation of kids had just started to get the hang of it when it was taken away,
👉a third generation of youth that were fully immersed in the world of their sport and their team that all of a sudden couldn't practice, compete or be with their teammates or coaches,
👉and finally, a fourth generation of young adults that would have had at least two, maybe even three more seasons of playing their sport before aging out of it, when that chapter of their life suddenly shut prematurely.

As sad as it is, we need to use this experience as an opportunity to promote kids sports now more than ever!

We are so fortunate to live in a country where most kids have the opportunity to play sports. Physically active kids have longer life expectancies, better mental and physical health and better academic performance. And sports help to boost self-confidence and body self-esteem.

We hope to see more teams travelling in the upcoming seasons than ever before, and we can't wait to be a part of something this important! Let's get those kids back out on the soccer pitch, the ice, the dance floor, the track, the gym mat, the volleyball court, the basketball court, into the pool!

UPDATE// We have been waiting and waiting for this day to arrive and it's FINALLY HERE. We're back! Sports are back! Travel...back! We couldn't be happier and we are ready for take off!

We truly didn't know what sports or group travel would look like as the world works to resume some kind of normalcy.

It was going to go one of two ways - slow as teams and groups alike continue to try and navigate things such as the ever-changing restrictions, their comfort level in a group environment etc. In which case, maybe we would have a couple teams travelling in the fall...but Canaccom wouldn't truly resume until maybe spring 2022??

Or, START THE CAR, book ALL the tournaments, let's GO!!! And we'd hit the ground running.

We are somewhere in the middle. We are starting to see our teams travelling again, enthusiastically! But of course, going into July, which is typically a bit slower in terms of team travel, fall planning for the new seasons will really tell us what we have to look forward to as we start to book hockey, ringette, indoor soccer, volleyball, gymnastic, dance, swim, ski, and so on. ⚽🏀🏐🥅🏸🏊‍♀️
