Today & Everyday, remember “kids do well if they can” - and certain Halloween activities will be easier for your child than others. Enjoy what they can do! Adapt for sights and smells and crowds and sounds and transitions that are too much. Know if your child has a tough moment, you are not alone! Many sensitive kids feel overwhelmed and need breaks today.
Follow their cues, come home early if you need to, and try out one of these ideas:
- build a fort, play with flashlights
- watch a Halloween movie
- have a bath & read Halloween stories
- have a candy hunt in your house
- make a candy calendar where the child decides how much candy to eat on what day
-count candy while listening to soothing music
- share about your Halloween (in comments below, or with family & friends)
We wish you the happiest of sensory-friendly Halloween’s, from the Sharpe Occupational Therapy Services Inc. team (and especially from our in-house Spiderman)
