We’re off to a late start this season but still very excited to announce our new location at 126 Gates Road, Hacketts Cove!

Only 45 mins from Halifax and 10 minutes from Peggy’s Cove, we hope to see lots of happy faces out with us soon. Paddling on St. Margarets Bay and Hiking in the Peggy’s Cove Preservation Area provide beautiful scenery and a fun way to get some exercise!

Our apologies for anyone that’s missed out on a chance to get on the water with us in Cape Breton this season, we’re certainly planning to continue operations on the island in the future but can only take one step at a time.

Get to know the man behind McKinnon Kayak Tours!

Alexi Rodriguez started McKinnon Kayak Tours in 2019 with hopes to build an Eco-Tourism Mecca and spend more time with his Grandparents on the West Coast of Cape Breton Island. He's since successfully guided many sea kayak tours through his business even though Covid-19 proved to be a difficult barrier.

Although the pandemic slowed momentum in the tourism industry, it provided an opportunity for Alexi to pursue his passion for providing outdoor opportunities for marginalized communities. He struggled with the pitfalls of the system growing up and realized as an adult that the outdoor adventure lifestyle/industry was a perfect way to fuel him in a positive way. This made him want to share this experience with folks coming from similar backgrounds as him.

In 2020 he started the Different Strokes Paddle Program, offering free paddle instruction to BIPOC communities in Nova Scotia. He's since been contracted to offer programming opportunities to different groups throughout the province.

Alexi is an avid whitewater kayaker, mountain biker, snowboarder and has a love for almost all outdoor sports. He is striving to expand his operations this upcoming year to be able to offer multiple outdoor activities through programming, instruction, and commercial tours throughout Nova Scotia and beyond!

Here is our new and improved cancellation policy!

We'll be taking 50% deposits on all tours this season. These deposits will only be refunded if there are unsafe paddling conditions such as high winds or thunderstorms.

Although some folks have no interest in cloudy/rainy day kayaking, others are happy to do so! With this in mind, please understand that your deposit will not be refunded if the weather isn't to your liking but is still safe for paddling.

Rescheduling could be arranged on a case by case basis depending on availability.

We strive to make our tours as comfortable and accessible for our clients as possible! We provide all necessary equipment to get you out on the water safely. All you will need to bring is drinking water, sun protection, water-friendly clothing and any necessary medications.

Please let your guide know of any medical conditions that may put you at risk on the water. We're happy to accommodate whatever needs you may have, we just need the information to do so.

We're pleased to announce that we'll be offering our two-hour tours out of Inverness and Mabou once again this summer! Prices are $125 for adults and $100 for youth under 16.

We're also happy to accommodate to your needs for customized tours in different locations! However, prices will vary depending on location and duration of custom tours.

We’re finally back up and running in Inverness! Guided sea kayak tours are $100/adult & $75/youth for two hours. Locations are Inverness Beach and Mabou Harbour depending on weather and preference.
