Have you ever had to stop a trip? Or walk anyone back? Yes, I can't tell you what's going to happen on a trip. For instance, this video is me leaving after getting an Inreach message from Jeremy saying a helicopter is coming to get you, your mom is going for emergency brain surgery tomorrow. From 6 AM on the Wokkpash trail to 5 PM in Vancouver. Left on day 4 of a 9-day trip. I've had to walk a few people out, yes. From heat exhaustion to an infected spider bite, we have seen some things just to name a few. I've had a client scratch their eye and the fastest way to continue a trip was to hire a private helicopter. The best thing about going with a guide is we are prepared for anything, and I mean anything. Our first aid kit is packed, learning from each experience. This is what we are trained for. It's all fun and games on the trail until it's not. I've seen people come by our camp, soaked, dealt with a bear all night, crossed a river where he shouldn't have, in survival mode to be honest with you. Cold and soaked. A warm fire, some heat warmers and a hot beverage changed that immediately for him. This post isn't meant to scare you. But be safe out there this season. Be prepared. Carry the 10 essentials with you, because when the time comes you'll wish you did. Tell someone where you're going for the day, leave a trip plan. These little things that take minutes of your time to prepare for, will indeed save your life. What are the 10 essentials? 1. Navigation - phones die remember that. 2. Sun Protection - heat stroke and exhaustion are not fun. 3. Light - a flashlight on your phone isn't enough. 4. First Aid - Always check your first aid kit. Epi-Pen is a must. 5. Shelter - Emergency blanket can go along ways! 6. Repair Kit and Tools - A leatherman is your best friend. 7. Fire - Always carry fire starter. Rain sucks sometimes. 8. Nutrition - Snacks and more snacks. 9. Hydration - A little lifestraw goes along ways. 10. Extra Layers - Dry socks and an extra coat can c
The winter solstice. - A night that we were supposed to be hitting the ski trails, the event got postponed due to the lack of snow here in FSJ. Who knew we would have no snow this year around this time.
Not the way I wanted to end the year, but with an outdoor company you never know what the weather is going to be and unfortunately can't control. What we can control is turning darkness into light.
This holiday season the most common answer I'm getting with are you excited for Christmas... Is no. It seems heavy to quite a few people. I hope most find the light in these dark days. To embrace the longer nights ahead. We survived this far and going into the New Year with another round of faith and being hopeful for a year for our bodies to carry us to the light for another lap around the sun.
As I right this I just looked up and seen 1:11, the end of the year marks 12/31/23. There are signs every where. I've been taking them as much as I can. There is light coming, and I'm excited for it to fill mine and your space with joy and happiness and most of all adventure.
Tonight, I celebrate that I've made it through another year of light to dark, and now I'm excited to go from dark to light. 🤍❄️
