Differences in dog personalities. Fox and Tiny couldn't WAIT to participate in the outdoor dance session today. (And the guests were happy to have them to dance with). But Kit? where was she? In the comfort and coolness of the hidey- hole she has created at the roots of the lilacs. We love all the dogs.

Sorry to say for all guests who were hoping for an outdoor campfire - it can't happen for the time being.

Update: May 3, 2024:
Effective May 3, 2024 at 15:00 pm, the County of Wetaskiwin is downgrading from a TOTAL FIRE BAN to a FIRE RESTRICTION.

Original Post:
Effective April 23, 2024 at 1:00 pm, the County of Wetaskiwin is under a TOTAL FIRE BAN.

There is an increased risk of wildfire due to dry conditions and high winds.

No outdoor fires are allowed, including:
* Open burning
* Fires contained to burn barrels, firepits or charcoal barbecues

All outdoor fires currently burning must be extinguished immediately.

The discharge of fireworks is not allowed.

All fire permits are suspended and no new fire permits will be issued for the duration of this FIRE BAN.

Residents can use cooking and heating appliances, including barbecues, firepits and patio heaters, that are fueled by liquid fuel such as propane or natural gas. Pellet fueled cooking is allowed with extreme caution.

Off-Highway Vehicles can start wildfires – check frequently to ensure hotspots are free of debris, and make sure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

When operating equipment, clear debris from moving parts, check your muffler and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass. Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available. Equipment fires or work-related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause even small amounts of dry fuels to ignite into a wildfire and spread easily.

The TOTAL FIRE BAN will remain in effect until conditions improve.

Residents are encouraged to learn and implement effective Fire Smart (https://firesmartalberta.ca/) tips to reduce hazard within their property, acreage, or farm. More information can be found at www.farmfiresmart.ca
