En el desierto del Sahara, en Tunez, encontramos algunos de los escenarios realizados específicamente para Star Wars como el pueblo de Mos Espa.
A nosotros no nos entusiasma pero llegamos en jeep a un lugar diferente donde hacerte fotos y pasar un día divertido y fue toda una experiencia en el desierto y el paisaje es de ensueño.

Ksar Hadada is a large half-circle or arrowhead in plan, with the diameter facing the main town square in a slightly concave curve and the rest subdivided by three interior streets running perpendicular to that edge. The Ksar was for a long time operating as a hotel and part of it shows traces of this with room numbers hung above doors and furnished common rooms . In other places the remainder is more rudimentary, suites were inserted into vertical stacks of ghorfas like townhouses by inserting staircases and connecting adjacent rooms. Although the Dahar Guide still lists it as a hotel, it was clear that it was not operational when we visited in March.

These modifications, along with the sense of a street-grid and some other sectional moves atypical of ksour set it apart from other examples visited and make for fun climbing. Together with Ksar Ouled Soltane (next post), Hadada is being (has been?) submitted to the UNESCO world heritage list and was undergoing some anticipatory renovations. Still, large sections were in complete collapse . One wonders how this will be dealt with in the future—rebuilt, cleared away, left in state?

The derelict state is surprising inasmuch as this is one of the more well-known and well-visited ksour, due to its role as a filming location in the Star Wars prequels. The site has an ambivalent relation to the films: a large sign out front announces the connection, but there's no acknowledgement within. The areas used for filming have been repainted in different patterns, and windows or arches blocked off. The most famous set at one point had changed substantially with the addition of an arch and new walls, but has now been put nearly back the way it was.

Legend has it Carthage was founded by the King of Tyre's daughter Elissa as she fled political rivals. In The Punic era, Carthage eventually was the center of trade and military power across North Africa. Later empires were built on top and around parts of the city. Fortunately for us, parts of the original city remain in a section of the historical site called Byrsa Hill.⁠

Guests will be able to explore the ruins of a 2nd century Roman amphitheater. Historians believe at one time the amphitheater was five stories tall and had seating for approximately 50,000 spectators. Unfortunately, the amphitheater is no longer fully intact; however, guests will be able to see the underground rooms and some of the foundation.⁠

On the way to tozeur, we visited "Sidi Bouhlel", the canyon location where Luke met Obi-Wan in Star Wars. Looking back from the valley, the salt lake spread beyond the mosque.

Based on excavation, it is believed that the ancient culture engaged in child sacrifices to gain favor with their gods. This practice was eventually disbanded, however, the evidence still remains. This is a somber historical site, however, it is a glimpse into the ancient culture.⁠
