After a week full of interesting meetings, new impressions and a lot of good food we are back home now. It was a intensive but great study week with a lot of fun and good memories! We definitely recommend you to visit Riga one day!;-)

Our day started early in the morning with answering the research question. We divided the team into three groups to discuss different aspects of our leading question. Afterwards we took the train to Jurmala to our last business meeting with the Tourist Information Center. Alexandra gave us an interesting overview of the organisation and their strategy. The collaboration between Live Riga and the Tourist Information Center in Jurmala is beneficial for both sides because of the unique short distance of capital and recreation resort. After an intensive week in a busy city Jurmala gave us the possibility to breathe, relax and enjoy the sun at the beach.

We had a rough start today. After a long night discovering Riga’s nightlife the visit of the occupation museum was though. However, the museum offers a deep insight into the Latvian history. Knowing the history of occupation allows us to understand the today’s culture and daily life of Riga.
In the afternoon we have tried to get in contact with the locals and receive some personal opinions. Therefore we have visited the Matiss Market which unfortunately was not very busy at that time so that we have decided to continue the interviews in the old town of Riga.

The highlight of our third day was definitely the cooking class with Karlis. The food degustations at the central market and afterwards the cooking, drinking and talking in the karlis café/kitchen was just great! Tomorrow you will find more about this exciting day in Riga and if Mr. Deuber have passed his cooking exam!;-)

Our second day started with an interesting meeting with the foundation Riga 2014 and the tourism organization Live Riga. In the afternoon we had a guided backstage tour through the Latvia National Opera, in which we have listened the Opera Rienzi from Richard Wagner in the evening. It was a short Opera: just 2.5 hours.

Šodien Turībā viesojas Šveices HTW Chur augstskolas studenti, lai diskutētu par kultūras tūrisma jēdzienu un tā integrāciju studiju procesā. Diskusiju organizē Starptautiskā tūrisma fakultāte un Tūrisma pētniecības centrs.

Today students of HTW Chur (Switzerland) visit Turiba University to discuss issues related to cultural tourism and its integration within study process. Discussion is organized by Turiba's Faculty of International Tourism and Tourism Research Centre.

In a week’s time we will visit the suburb Jurmula. Jurmula is well known as the leisure area of Riga and after our impressive week we think we deserve a relaxing afternoon on the beach :) The nice atmosphere there also gives us the perfect opportunity to reflex the whole week and to have a wonderful completion of our study week.

At Thursday morning we are going to visit the Museum of Occupation and will have a guided tour and get in touch with the history of Latvia and Riga. In the afternoon we are planning to visit two markets. We have planned to split into two groups to discover the different atmospheres of the Āgenskalns (Picture) and the Matīss Market. There we would like to get in contact with the locals to understand what expectations the inhabitants of Riga have concerning this year of culture.

At Wednesday we are going to visit the hotel Vecriga which is located in one of the oldest buildings in Riga. In the afternoon we meet Chef Karlis who will show us the central market. There we are going to buy all the ingredients for our cooking course. Afterwards, we will cook with him a typical Lativian menu. We really looking forward to this cooking session, because we all love eating delicious food :)

For our second day we’ve organised a business meeting with the RTAB-Riga tourism Development Bureau. We also arranged a meeting with the Foundation Riga 2014, which is responsible for the cultural program for Riga as European Capital of Culture 2014. We’re looking forward to interesting discussions about tourism in Riga and how this special year will affect Riga. Our day ends then with a visit in the Latvian National Opera in which we will attend the Opera Rienzi.

In a week we will start our study week with a visit to the Turiba University and will be having a round table discussion with different people from the University and Riga. Afterwards we will have a presentation and a discussion with Via Hansa, who is one of the leading inbound tour operators in the Baltic Sea region. In the afternoon we will go on an alternative city tour with E.A.T. on which we will get to know Riga.
