Carmenère originates from Bordeaux, but it has found its home in Chile.

👨‍🔬 Did you know that in 1994, scientists in Chile discovered that a large number of vines previously thought to be Merlot, were in fact Carmenère?

These vines were most likely imported from Bordeaux in the 19th century. Carmenère is an offspring of Cabernet Franc and was previously used in blends, but due to the phylloxera blight in Europe, it was nearly wiped out.

However, as Chile was geographically isolated from the spread of phylloxera, this grape has thrived. As a late-ripening grape variety, Carmenère grows best in warm, sunny sites.

The wines are often full-bodied and display flavours of blackberry, coffee and chocolate, often with hints of bell pepper (capsicum) and eucalyptus. The very best examples tend to come from the Cachapoal and Colchagua Valleys and can be outstanding in quality.

Baxk.in the valley again! It has not been easy. From social unrest to COVID we are still here taking people to wineries in one of the coolest valleys on the planet. .

Alot of wineries are closed for various reasons and have suspended tourism, but we know where to go for a great wine experience.

Cheers to all those that have been on our tours and a hello to all those wine lovers venturing to Chile for the first time.

CATA DE LOS VINOS GENEROSOS DE JEREZ

Los Vinos Generosos son vinos secos (con un máximo de azúcar residual de 5 gramos por litro). Su proceso de elaboración incluye una fermentación completa de los mostos -habitualmente de uva Palomino- al final del cual se produce la aparición del velo de levaduras de "flor" en el vino base.
La decisión del bodeguero de fortificar el vino base bien a 15º o bien por encima de 17º de alcohol va a determinar el tipo de crianza a la que va someterse el vino posteriormente.
A partir de ahí surgen los distintos tipos de Vino de Jerez Generosos: Fino y Manzanilla, Oloroso, Amontillado y Palo Cortado.
