Legend has it that, in ancient times, the lord of Gyantse dreamed of building a "Potala Palace" in his city. To make this dream a reality, he sent a skilled craftsman to Lhasa to study the design of the original Potala Palace. The craftsman returned with a design... drawn on a radish! Unfortunately, by the time he made it back to Gyantse, the radish had dried up, leaving the lord no choice but to build a smaller, more fragmented version of the iconic palace we now know as Gyantse Dzong.
