[ Scenic Spot in Beijing-Shidu]Sometimes dubbed 'the Guilin of the North,' Shidu Scenic Spot is located along the middle-upper reaches of Juma River in Fangshan District, 100 kilometers from the Beijing city. There are 10 river bends along this segment of the river.Shidu is the only natural scenic spot in north China that is characterized by karst peak forests and river valley topography.Bungee jumping is a more recent attraction of the area. It claims to be the first place to offer a bungee facility for adventurers in China.The mountain of Shidu is steep, the water is clear, peaks, rocks form a contrast to the water, caves, brooks and ponds.

[Li: Govt will boost input for healthcare]To provide better healthcare services, the Chinese government will increase its input and encourage social capital to enter the industry, Premier Li Keqiang said on Tuesday.
These moves would help to minimize patients' out-of-pocket expenses, effectively prevent and cure diseases, and create more quality healthcare resources.
The biggest change in China's industrial restructuring is to develop its service industry, and the healthcare sector could take the leading role to benefit all citizens and boost growth.
Li made the remarks during a meeting with Jim Yong Kim, president of the World Bank, and Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization.
It is a "creative step" for China, the World Bank and the WHO to jointly push forward China's healthcare reforms.

[Trip fuels talk of new panda loan]President Xi Jinping's two-day visit to South Korea has sparked media speculation that China will loan a pair of pandas to the country.
During talks with his South Korean counterpart Park Geun-hye on Thursday, Xi said China upholds that relevant institutes of both sides should proceed with joint panda research to deepen the friendship of the two peoples.
As China is considering loaning the panda pair, a source at Wolong National Nature Reserve in Sichuan province said the pandas might come from the China Conservation and Research Center for the Giant Panda.

[Airports in Beijing]Beijing's primary airport is the Beijing Capital International Airport (IATA: PEK) about 20 kilometres (12 mi) northeast of the city center. The airport is the second busiest airport in the world. [ Giant panda delivers twin cubs in Chengdu]A giant panda gave birth to the twins -- a female and male -- at 8:13 am and 8:44 am at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding, scientists told Xinhua.
They are the first set of panda twins to be born this year in the city.
The cubs, weighing 146 grams and 117 grams respectively, are the second and third offspring of Yaxing. They were born more than four months after the mother naturally mated with Yongyong on Feb 22.

[American to fly between Dallas and Hong Kong, Shanghai]American Airlines has launched daily nonstop service from Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport to Hong Kong and Shanghai. The airline says the new flights to Hong Kong International Airport and Shanghai Pudong International Airport reinforce "American's commitment to expanding and strengthening its presence in the Asia-Pacific region."
Service between DFW and Hong Kong will operate with a Boeing 777-300ER. Service between DFW and Shanghai will operate with a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.

[Brazil to help China develop soccer]World Cup host Brazil is offering to help China achieve the goal of developing soccer into a truly national sport, according to the head of Brazil's Sports Ministry."Brazil is willing to provide all kinds of support for China to help it get into the World Cup finals and even win the tournament one day," Aldo Rebelo said.
In 2011, China and Brazil teamed up with a number of agreements to deepen cooperation to strengthen Chinese soccer.

[To eat, or not to eat dog meat]The controversial annual dog meat-eating festival will be held on the summer solstice (June 21) in Yulin, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, when more than 10,000 dogs are likely to be slaughtered and served as hotpots with litchis and strong liquor.

The festival has once again brought China's animal rights activists together, who, in collaboration with some well-known actors, have urged Yulin residents to stop eating dog meat and abolish the festival. This year, however, the confrontation between the groups opposed to and supporting the festival is far more intense, with one citing social and moral norms to prove its point and the other demanding respect for local customs.

[ Ancient wall joins World Cup carnival]People watch the World Cup football match between Spain and Holland on a mega-size "screen" projected on a wall in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu Province. Sixteen projectors turn the ancient wall, which was built in early Ming Dynasty (1368－1644) and has more than 600 years' history, into a giant screen measuring 1,000 square meters. Since June 13, one World Cup replay match is screened at 9pm each night, and one live game after midnight. It has attracted a large number of citizens for the extraordinary viewing experience.

[Dragon boat delights]The Dragon Boat Festival, also called Double Fifth Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth moon of the lunar calendar(June 2ed this year). There are several stories that explain the festival's origin and the most popularly accepted tale is that Duanwu started to commemorate Qu Yuan, a minister and poet of the Chu Kingdom in the Warring States Period (475-221BC).It is said that Qu antagonized officials, was accused of treason and was exiled by the king. In despair he committed su***de by jumping into the Miluo River on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month.
Local admirers raced out in boats to try and save him and when he was not found people dropped balls of sticky rice into the river so fish would eat them instead of his body.For these reasons people celebrate the festival by holding dragon boat races and eating Zongzi, sticky rice snacks filled with savory and sweet fillings wrapped in bamboo leaves.There are several photos of traditional Duanwu celebrations.

[The Great Wall Of China]Despite the popular Chinese misconception that the Great Wall "can be seen from the moon," the wall is one of the greatest civil engineering projects in human history. TheChángchéng, or "long wall" is actually a series of walls spanning an incredible 4,000 miles (6,400 km).
Construction of the "Great Wall of China" began as early as the 5th century BC, but it was the Emperor Qin Shi Huang who is credited with the construction of significant sections of the wall between 220 BC and 200 BC. Under Qin Shi Huang's leadership, China was unified, and the wall was built to minimize incursions from the Xiongnu people of Mongolia, to the northwest of Beijing.
