We are thrilled to unveil a groundbreaking collaboration with Weixin Pay (also known as WeChat Pay outside China's mainland), enabling users of international UnionPay-powered wallets to scan Weixin Pay payment codes within China's mainland. Eight wallets are now able to offer this feature, namely BoC Pay from Bank of China (Hong Kong), Octopus, PayMe by HSBC, and Tap & Go in Hong Kong SAR; Bangkok Bank Mobile Banking and K PLUS from KASIKORN BANK in Thailand; Naver Pay in South Korea; and ICBC Mobile Banking (ICBC Pay) in Malaysia. International visitors will thus have access to more mobile payment options during their time in China's mainland.

With this partnership, once users link their physical UnionPay cards or activate digital UnionPay cards in the participating wallets, they will be able to pay by scanning Weixin Pay payment codes in China's mainland, with their home currencies automatically converted to the RMB. In the future, Weixin QR payments will also be enabled for more UnionPay-powered wallets from Macao SAR, other Southeast Asian countries, the South Pacific, and more regions.

We are thrilled to annouce that Alipay and Weixin payments are fully enabled for UnionPay cards issued outside China’s mainland, providing more diversified, convenient and inclusive payment options for inbound travelers to China. The collaboration with Weixin Pay is supported through the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC).
In order to further optimize payment services, UnionPay launched Project Excellence 2024 in March, joining hands with various industry stakeholders to build a convenient, inclusive, and accessible payment ecosystem. This collaboration is the latest achievement of the Project. From now on, international travelers to China can download Alipay or Wexin applications, link their local UnionPay cards, and enjoy the same convenience of QR payments as the Chinese users do.

Rome becomes the first European city to offer Open Loop Transit payments to UnionPay cardholders！

The service, commonly known as open loop transit, is now available through Nexi Italy, the leading Italian PayTech in Europe, to allow the holders of their contactless cards or mobile phone (to which the card is binded) to access Rome's public transportation by paying the fare in this extremely simple, fast, and secure way, thanks to the contactless sales channel developed by ATAC across the entire transportation network of Rome.

The service is active on all surface lines, buses, trams, and trolleybuses, as well as on the entire metro network (metro A, metro B/B1, metro C), in addition to some urban railway lines equipped with entrance turnstiles.
