đAngkor Wat, Siem Reap, Cambodia is the largest religious monument on the planet, spreading over 400 acres and listed by UNESCO since 1992.
Living in South East Asia, I was lucky enough to visit the complex on more than one occasion, but nothing could prepare me for the visit I took during the pandemic.
The site, and other temple complexes, once bustling with tourists and street vendors were all but deserted. I had never seen Angkor Wat or itâs sister temples like this; fiercely impactful, a sight to behold and still very magical, yet also somehow desperate to see life.
As tourism is re-bounding, Siem Reap and Angkor Wat are also bouncing back, and while there is still a long way to go, it is wonderful to see. But, I am also grateful I got to see the mighty temples in all their glory, silently and in reflection.
These images, taken by me,reflect that time; the beauty and the solitude; and are sights I know I will never see again. For that, I am forever grateful.
Itâs a great time to visit Southeast Asia as tourists are being welcomed back. Contact me to discuss more.
