Le Joropo, musique des cow-boys colombiens
En Colombie, entre la cordillère des Andes et le Venezuela, les llaneros, les cow-boys colombiens, vivent au rythme du Joropo, une musique dansée devenue le symbole de toute la région. Au XVe siècle, après l’arrivée des missionnaires chrétiens, les Colombiens apprennent le maniement des chevaux et des vaches et celui de la harpe et du cuatro, une petite guitare à quatre cordes.

During your stay in Popayan, we strongly recommend you to make an excursion to the village of Silvia. Located at 1 hour from Popayan, Silvia is the city of the Guambiano indigenous community. The traditional clothing of this ethnic group reminds us of the Peruvian people. The Guambiano live in the surroundings of the city and come down to Silvia for its market which takes place on Tuesday.

Our advice: This market is very colorful, and it is interesting for us to get there early so that you can observe the chivas full of agricultural products arriving at the market, as well as the Guambiano Indians and their colorful clothes, who sell agricultural products, but also handicrafts.

La Guajira is an isolated and deserted region where the Wayúu indigenous community will welcome you within their ancestral traditions and show you their handicrafts, unique in the world.

Sun, mountains, desert, beach and the wayuu culture, mark this department as a different and unexpected region in the entire Caribbean area, where reality is confused with fantasy.

Getting to know La Guajira is an out of the ordinary experience, where one acquires knowledge about the perfect harmony between man and his environment. From the settlements of the people who guard the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta to the Wayúu who live together in the desert and demonstrate the balanced way in which the Guajiro builds and protects their natural environment.

Cartagena de Indias, located on the Caribbean coast, is the capital of Bolivar department. Founded in 1533 by Pedro de Heredia, Cartagena is the 5th most populated city in Colombia. It is surrounded by a great wall that protected it from pirate invasions. Cartagena is a city full of contradictions and enchantments. Its architecture, its magnificent colonial houses and its picturesque streets scented by the scent of tropical fruits and a delicious sea breeze make the unique charm of this illustrious city, considered the most beautiful colonial city in South America. Cartagena’s soft nights, illuminated by colors that contrast with its colonial history, make it the ideal destination for those who love romance.

📍 Caquetá

Located in the south of the country in the Amazon region, large rivers bathe the territory. Except for the populations which are located at the base of the mountains, and a few indigenous villages on the banks of the great rivers, the rest of the territory is practically uninhabited and covered with thick humid tropical forest, with a temperature between 27º and 29º. Florence, its capital highlights the fascinating and exotic of natural landscapes, its parks, churches and historic buildings stand out in the same way.

📍 El Vallenato

Vallenato is a traditional musical genre that emerged from the fusion of cultural expressions of northern Colombia: songs of the cowboys of the Magdalena Grande, songs of the African slaves and rhythms of traditional dances of the indigenous peoples of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. All these expressions have also been mixed with elements of Spanish poetry and the use of musical instruments of European origin. Nostalgic, joyful, sarcastic and humorous, the lyrics of vallenato songs interpret the world through stories that combine realism and imagination. There are three traditional vallenato instruments: the caja (a small drum played with the hands), the guacharaca (a piece of wood with grooves that are scraped with a wire comb) and the accordion.

It is a marvel for its medieval architecture and its topographic location among the cliffs of the Andes mountain range, which is why it is called “God’s miracle over the abyss”; The sanctuary had its origin because of the apparition that the Virgin made to a deaf-mute indigenous girl. This is considered the most beautiful sanctuary in America, in honor of the Virgin of Our Lady of the Rosary of Las Lajas, it is visited by thousands of pilgrims in its Quincenario Festival during the month of September as well as in the Holy Week season.

📍 Ciudad Perdida

The Ciudad Perdida or Lost City of Teyuna is a mythical archaeological site in the heart of the Colombian jungle known for its incredible vestiges where respect for the natives and nature are at the rendezvous!

The Lost City is a sacred archaeological site of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. It was founded between the 7th and 8th century by the indigenous Tayrona community, who considered the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta as their sea and the heart of the world. The Lost City was probably the political center of the region, at the foot of the Buritaca River, and its population was composed of approximately 2,000 to 8,000 people.
