Cartagena’s annual Independence celebrations are over for another year, with the 2024 installment being declared the best ever! If you are the type of traveler that loves a festival.. maybe you should consider adding 6-11 November 2025 in Cartagena to your travel agenda. Expect colorful parades showcasing dance and customs that date back to the important African cabildos from the 1600s, beauty queens everywhere, a day on the bay where boats join together to watch an on-water concert, locals filling the streets with matching family tshirts and lots of shoulder shimmying, every second boy having bleached hair, a constant soundtrack of buscapie firecrackers, an absolute lack of pretension and a whole lotta fun. The celebrations are not for the faint of heart though: you WILL be sprayed with an aggressively floral scented shaving foam and will also probably have white cornflour tossed on your face or hair as well. There will be lots of people and moving from A-Z will probably require a lot of patience. But it will also be unforgettable. Feel free to email us if you want to know more!

a menu item you will see throughout cartagena/colombia: milo. the chocolate-malt milk drink is the preferred sweet treat of many, especially frappeado (frozen and slushy). anyway this is my annual psa that milo was actually created in Australia 🇦🇺 🐨
