Scarlet-banded Barbet (Capito wallacei). One of the best birds of Peru, that was fairly recently described for science. To date is known from an isolated plateau between the rivers Ucayali and Huallaga in north-central Peru. The region of Plataforma is the only site known for see this bird with fairly easy access, unfortunately not a protected area and the forest of this area is disappearing very rapidly. At least most of the areas where this specie occur has a very remote access that will protect the survival of the specie. Another sub specie known as Sira Barbet occur on even more remote area on the East slope of Sirra Mountains more towards the center of Peru.

One of the most restricted range distribution sparrows, has experienced a severe reduction in its historical range due to habitat destruction, and is considered globally endangered. On the right places and in the right time of the year is decent chances to be seen, in subalpine meadows with bunchgrass of 1-2 meters tall, surrounded by pine forest in the highlands of the Sierra Madre mountains.
This bird was seen in Parque Maravillas not to far from Mexico DF.
