Today, with great pride, we celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Annexation of the Nicoya Party to Costa Rica. Guanacaste, our land full of folklore and traditions, has deeply enriched the history and culture of our country.

This video, shows the wonders of our province and the traditions that fill us with pride.! On July 25th of 1824, the towns of Nicoya, Santa Cruz and Cañas decided to join Costa Rica, strengthening our national identity.

Do you know how many frogs you can find in Costa Rica?

Well... Today we present one of the 193 species that Costa Rica has.
Another increndible fact, Did you know that Costa Rican amphibians represent 3% of all the species in the world?

Agalychnis callidryas

The red-eyed green frog or red-eyed frog (Agalychnis callidryas) is a species of anuran amphibian of the Hylidae family, which inhabits from the eastern part of Honduras to northwestern Colombia.
Its name comes from the Greek (aga) meaning "full of", (lychnos) "bright" and the species name refers to (kallos) "beauty" and (dryas) "tree nymph". Most notable are their large red eyes with vertical pupil. As adults they become brightly colored all over their bodies. Green predominates, but they usually have other colors such as blue or yellow.
The male is smaller than the female: 56 mm and the female 71 mm. They are nocturnal and arboreal.

Great Blue Heron: The great blue heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird in the heron family Ardeidae, common near the shores of open water and in wetlands over most of North America and Central America, as well as the Caribbean and the Galápagos Islands.
they feed on small fish, crabs, baby crocodrile , young iguanas, and even young birds. Being large wading birds, the great blue heron find much of their food in deep water. They hunt with their excellent eyesight, and swallow their prey whole. This sometimes has the unfortunate result of them choking on their food, having to regurgitate the stuck dinner.
