In the past, they were used to transport coffee and other goods across rough terrain. Today, they represent the spirit of the Costa Rican campesino and the pride we take in our rural roots.
Each oxcart is a true work of art, painted with bright colors, geometric patterns, and intricate designs passed down through generations.
You can see them in Sarchí, the birthplace of this tradition, where artisans still craft and paint them using ancestral techniques.
More than just a folkloric souvenir, the oxcart is a symbol of who we are: hardworking, creative, and joy-filled people.

Coloridas, hechas a mano y llenas de historia, las carretas típicas costarricenses son un símbolo nacional de trabajo, tradición y arte.
Antiguamente se usaban para transportar café y otros productos por caminos difíciles. Hoy, representan el esfuerzo del campesino tico y el orgullo por nuestras raíces.

In Costa Rica, "pura vida" is said for everything. It can mean "hello," "goodbye," "everything’s fine," "thank you," or simply "that’s great." But there’s so much more behind those two words.

"Pura vida" represents a way of looking at life with optimism, gratitude, and tranquility. It’s part of the national identity and something every visitor eventually adopts. Ticos say it with a smile and live it every day, from the way they drive to the way they enjoy a coffee watching the sunset.

🌞 In Costa Rica, life is lived without haste, with respect for nature, and with human warmth as our hallmark.

En Costa Rica, "Pura Vida" se dice para todo. Puede significar "hola", "adiós", "todo bien", "gracias" o simplemente "qué chiva (genial)". Pero detrás de esas dos palabras hay mucho más.
