Last shipments of 2023 are finally heading out of Costa Rica and most of our coffees have already hit their destinations! As this season comes to a close our focus will shift to supporting and communications with our partners as well as planning for what’s next. Thank you all for believing in us and making 2023 a hard fought success.

People often congratulate us on our growth and success over the years when we bump into them. But honestly, we’re not sure what gives folks the impression that we’re doing so well…

Although it may be true that we have had successes (a long with some failures) and have been blessed with growth - that’s never quite been our real goal.

Our purpose has always been rooted in quality as it relates to product, service, traceability, and long-term relationships. For us it’s about people. Period. Looking out for their best interest and enriching their work lives.

If you’ve read this far - know that this time of the year is about as intense as it gets for us. And we’re not going to lie to y’all. This season has been extremely rough. With sales all but wrapped up - we have immense pressure and stress to ensure quality and timely export.

We are making a lot of extremely heavy decision and juggling the emotions and expectations of our supplying and purchasing partners. We do everything we can to keep everyone happy. Sometimes we do things to try and improve a situation, but things end up turning out worse than they were before. It’s exhausting. Mistakes happen along the way. However, we always hold ourselves accountable, and again, do everything in our power and experience to do the right and best thing for our peers.

If you feel like we’ve disappeared from the interwebs… That’s why. Rest assured that we’re cooped up in the lab or in a dry mill / warehouse working our little butts off trying to get these coffees out in the best possible state there is for you.

Looks like our busy season for visits has pretty much come to an end!

Harvest is all but over, the coffee plants are flowering, lots are selling out, and what’s left is dry milling and exporting 🫡

Thank you so very much to everyone that came out to visit us and the producers this harvest. It means the world to us all and we are aware of the sacrifice that it requires from you!

Also, a huge thanks to everyone quickly cupping and making decisions on the samples we’ve been sending out to many of those who couldn’t make it out to visit us this year 🤗

New blog in bio ➡️ Nazareth is very busy these days! Visiting wet mills drying their coffees, cupping the fresh crop, and packing/shipping samples to our valued partners.

On top of all that she has taken the time to reflect on her past visit to the consuming side of the industry. We sent her out to see what happens in coffee after export in both Minneapolis and Denver.

It’s super important for us that the entire team understand deeply, the complete journey coffees make. That experience is forming the way we work the harvest right now. Every season just a bit better!

Meet our new Mascot! What shall we name it?

You will get to know this character very well over this next season as it shows up in more and more places!

Like the great minds before us who applied themes to their various works - we will choose a theme for each crop year. Selva means “jungle” in Spanish. So, we will select an animal from the Costa Rican Wild to channel.

For our first spirit animal we went with a Puma!

Tasting coffees together with our friends at their roastery is a wild and privileged experience. Freakin love it!!

We get to know our partners and our coffees far more in depth. That helps us do our work better and results in improved coffee each year.

Back in mid September we made sure to visit a group of guys that are doing truly special things in the magical city of Seville, Spain.

is bringing radical coffee quality to their quaint town by building long-term, sustainable relationships with producers and roasting their goods to perfection.

Our visit was well worth it as we got to cup our coffees on arrival and truly understand the result of our work. We also discussed Ineffable’s mission, their impact on the area, and the general profile of their market in Southern Spain.

It’s of the utmost importance to us to visit our partners and spend good time together. That goes for both coffee producers and roasters!

The practice helps us do our job better for everyone. It results in a deeper understanding of our partners needs and direction. We become excellent facilitators and our relationships are strengthened.

This trip to the homies did just that. We were impressed with the set up they created, the flow, and awesome team! Isn’t the roastery bad ass?!

We collaborated on an awesome public cupping in Madrid with our friends Hola Coffee to demonstrate many of the varieties and processes that we’re excited about in Costa Rica.

It was also the launch of the lots we worked on together this past harvest: Daniela’s Washed Gesha and the Aguilera’s Natural SL28.

It was a privileged opportunity to get to know our roasting partners even more in depth as well as the wonderful community in the capitol of Spain!
