The rare and spectacular Ornate Hawk-Eagle inhabits tropical lowland forests and mountainous slopes. It's most commonly seen soaring high around midday, but when hunting, it perches at any level within the forest. Its presence is often announced by powerful, hiccup-like whistles as it flies.

The adult has orange plumage on the sides of its head and distinctly barred underparts. The immature, though rarely seen, has a white head and white underparts with barred flanks. Its long, pointed crest is usually closed during flight but can be raised vertically when perched.

At Sky Adventures, we are fortunate to have the opportunity to observe this magnificent bird. 🙌😍

At Sky Adventure, we are committed to conservation research. Last Thursday, we began a forest study in collaboration with the Tropical Science Center (CCT).

Over the next four months, we will monitor mammals, birds, amphibians, reptiles, and record forest species in areas near our trails.🤩🌳

We know that our forest is rich in biodiversity, and that Costa Rica Sky Adventures is the habitat of multiple species. Fortunately, we have successfully observed an ocelot (Leopardus pardalis), also known as a manigordo, through camera traps. The ocelot is a medium-sized feline species, ranking as the third largest feline after the jaguar and the puma. The name "manigordo" originates from the fact that the front paws, or "hands," leave much larger footprints than the hind ones. This species plays a crucial role in the balance of the ecosystems where it resides, regulating the populations of its prey and contributing to biological diversity.
