🇧🇷 Rock in Rio 1985 🇧🇷
It was a hot winter south of the Equator, when the sounds of Rock ‘n’ Roll met the colors Carnival. This was the winter of 1985 in Rio de Janeiro, and the start of one of the biggest rock festivals in music history. This was the start of Rock in Rio.

In a time when Brazil was taking its first baby steps towards democracy, holding a major world festival seemed like a mission impossible. However, this didn’t discourage Roberto Medina, who had a dream and invented his very own festival in Rio. And what Rock in Rio did during its first edition was, simply put – amazing!
An entire city was built for the festival. Fittingly titled City of Rock, during those ten days, 11–20 January, music was everything the fans wanted, and music they received. Today, we can only dream of a lineup like Rock in Rio Brazil 1985, headlined by Queen, Iron Maiden, Whitesnake/David Coverdale, James Taylor, Rod Stewart, Go Go's, Nina Hagen, AC/DC, Scorpions, Ozzy Osbourne, YES (official), The B-52's and many many others.

Ridiculous records were also being made and broken at Rock in Rio 1985. The City of Rock covered an area of 35 football pitches, where 1.4 million fans enjoyed this ten-long rockathon, drinking 1.6 million liters of beverages and eating 900,000 hamburgers, including 58,000 McDonald’s burgers in a single day, which stood as Guinness Record until the festival’s 2011 edition. As the festival continues to break moves into its 18th edition, Rock in Rio’s mission is perfectly summed up in the words of its founder: “Rock in Rio provides unforgettable experiences for all audiences. On stage they have metal, pop, rock, MPB, they have it all.”

In June 1967, San Francisco was the place where a music festival sparked a counterculture that would shape the future of the world. The event was Monterey International Pop Festival and the party came to be known as The Summer of Love. It has been 50 years since then, and as true festival fans we are having a throwback to honor this glorious event that emobdied the universal message of peace, love and music.

The festival was among the first tributes to rock’n’roll, lasting three days and gathered the biggest acts at the time, and whose music continues to inspire us to this day. The headliners all gave unforgettable performnace at festival and included some of the best names in music ever, such as The Animals, Simon & Garfunkel, Canned Heat, Big Brother and the Holding Company featuring Janis Joplin, The Byrds, Jefferson Airplane band, Booker T & The MGs, Otis Redding, Buffalo Springfield, The Who, The Grateful Dead, The Jimi Hendrix Experience and The Mamas & the Papas and Scott McKenzie who closed the festival with the now famous lyrics: “If you’re going to San Francisco be sure to wear some flowers in your hair”. The party lasted all summer and became the stuff of legend for generations to come!
