SANTIAGO DE CUBA

Founded in 1515, Santiago was one of the first of seven towns in Cuba and the Spanish colony's capital until 1553. Diego Velázquez, the founder of the original seven villas, built his mansion here, and the house still stands in the heart of the historic quarter.
The Spanish character of the city would soon be supplemented by other influences. After the 1791 revolution in Haiti, a large number of French coffee plantation owners fled with their African slaves and made their way to Santiago. Black Haitian workers followed, as did large contingencies of West African slaves, sold to work on the plantations.

Santiago today has the requisite noise, traffic, and pollution of a large city, but the intimate, friendly feel of a provincial capital, with leafy, peaceful neighborhoods where men play dominoes outdoors on hilly streets.
A visit to Santiago can feel somewhat frenetic, and some visitors find that the friendly, forward character of Santiagueros a special feeling, different than all other cities in Cuba. An industrial port city, Santiago was hit especially hard when Cuba lost its Soviet support and Eastern bloc trade partners during the Special Period.

Cuban Pig Roast
The adventure begins with being picked up in one or more of our three authentic 1950's Chevy's, a 55, 56, and a 57 Chevy await your arrival!

Yannel, our English speaking host will bring you through the beautiful countryside and fill your mind with historical facts and stories in a way only a real Cuban can.

Upon arrival you will be greeted with traditional Spanish music and a complimentary bottle of Havana Club so you can have a toast with your chef as he is preparing your very own spectacular whole roast pork.

Dinner will include a variety of common Cuban foods such as roast pork, congris (black beans and rice), platano frito (fried plantain), fresh salad and mojo (garlic, oil, salt and lime) with unlimited fresh drinking water and soft drinks included (bottled or canned beverages are at an additional cost).

After dinner you can enjoy a drink and a cigar and some music or take a walk around the square to see how people live in this small country town, horseback riding is also available for the more adventurous travelers.

We'll take you back to the resort in one of our classic cars with a full belly, a tan, and a new found love for the Cuban culture! This is a family environment and a great learning experience for young and old alike so bring the kids and watch them benefit from the love and kindness of these wonderful people.

*Chicken is available for those who don't eat pork, request must be made at time of booking.

*Beer and wine are not always available in town so please feel free to bring your own from the resort if that is your preference.

*Local talented Spanish guitar player and vocalist can be arranged for an additional fee (if available), request must be made at time of booking.

It seems my PianosForCuba initiative has stalled, the response has been so great that I've run out of room to put the donated pianos! If anyone has any extra warehouse or storage space they would like to donate for a few months, it would be greatly appreciated as I can't move forward until I have a place to house the rest of the pianos until shipment.

Unfortunately here in Ontario the piano market has decreased significantly so most people can't even give away their old pianos, I believe I have a solution to this problem! It is my dream to send a container of pianos to Cuba, I am willing to provide all of the pianos and benches at my cost but...
