🚤 Have you ever made a catamaran tour in Cuba? Read the testimonial (and see her wonderful photos) from our colleague, who has made one recently – you will be thrilled:

Part 1:

The loud rattling of the engine wakes us up around 5 o'clock in the morning. Our skipper is already at work and we leave the small port of Cienfuegos on time. A long (sailing) day lies ahead of us until we reach the destination of the day, Cayo Largo. 🏝

Slowly we glide through the bay of Cienfuegos, the water beats against the bow of our catamaran, sleeping is now out of the question. So it's time for the first coffee ☕️, while the sun slowly rises over the mainland and the mountains of the Sierra Escambray become smaller and smaller, until at some point they are no longer visible - and we are surrounded only by water 🌊. The weather is on our side, the swell is not too strong and we are spared from seasickness during the long crossing.

After a good 8 hours we reach shallower waters, the water shimmers in turquoise tones around us and even though there is still no land in sight we know our destination is not far away. 🌅

: 🎨 Did you know that at the outskirts of Havana awaits this artistic, almost surreal place to be discovered by you? “Fusterlandia” was created in the 1980s by the Cuban artist Fuster – also known as the “Gaudí of the Caribbean”. It is a small wonderland with colourful ceramic tiles all over the walls, floors and doors. Artworks can be bought there, too. Put it on your bucket list for your next trip to Havana!

The big square “Plaza San Francisco de Asís” in front of the church is popular amongst tourists and Cubans. Tourists enjoy the view to the harbor, the monumental church and all the street seller and attractions to take photos with. Within Habaneros, this place is mostly known as “Plaza de la palomas”, as there are always a lot of pigeons, as you can see on pic 1.

: The famous Floridita bar has opened its door again! Enjoy a fresh Daiquiri like once American author Ernest Hemingway did, whose spirit is still present in the interior design. There’s a vivid mix of interested tourists and bohemian locals who frequent the “Floridita”. The hustle and bustle inside the bar is mostly accompanied by a charming Cuban live band, who rounds off perfectly the atmosphere.

: Toooot toooot, everybody on board! The famous cute little train at the Malecón is rolling again! It is a very popular attraction, among tourists as well as Habaneros themselves. For only a few pesos you can ride along the long stretched coast of the capital, jump in and out and take photos.

The Plaza Vieja, one of Havana's oldest squares, is in full bloom again. It is popular amongst tourists and Cubans for all the beautiful bars and cafés sourronding it, the restored colonial buildings and to watch the daily hustle and bustle while drinking a cocktail.

: The emblematic Hotel Nacional de Cuba 🏨, situated upon a hill next to the Malecón, has reopened its doors for international clients on November 15th. In fact, the hotel has never been closed – it stayed open during lockdown to offer national clients from Havana a little relaxing getaway 🏝 At only a few meters distance starts the famous “La Rampa” street which leads directly up the little hill to the TRYP Habana Libre Hotel, whose side façade has been painted by the contemporary Cuban artist Michel Mirabal 🎨

The moment, when we in Havana, realized that life is going back to normality was, when we saw the first emblematic red double-decker hop-on hop-off buses cruising through the streets of our city. Although we would prefer a more private and personalized city tour with vintage cars, we were definitely glad to see them again!

This gorgeous promenade who became Chanel’s tropical runway five years ago comes back to live again and welcomes all its daily visitors: Neighbourhood kids play ball games 🏈 teenagers practice their skateboard skills 🛹 young dance groups who shoot Youtube videos 📸 and senior citizens talk about the latest football results⚽. Now again, tourists walk on it and take their souvenir pics.

⛪ The Plaza Catedral is busy as usual with tourist groups from all around the world who enjoy this jewel of colonial architecture, one of the oldest remains from ancient times. But it’s not only tourists who crowd the place. If you have a look around you, you can see young girls in voluminous princess dresses (pic 2) 👸 taking photos for their 15th birthday (quinceañera tradition), Santería fortune tellers and walking sweet sellers 🍭

Laura likes beaches in general, but she loves Cuba’s beaches more than any others. 🏖️ “I really enjoy our open air areas such as the beach or either the country side where I feel the Cuban tropical flavor the most. But the sea will always be my favorite, which is why I really enjoy doing nautical activities… diving above all. 🏊‍♀️ So I would say that is a MUST whenever I’m on holidays”

Laura also declares herself as a cinema lover, so going to the movie is always a plan she would say YES to 🎥 Finally we find out that when there’s some free time available, Laura also likes listening to music, and that’s when living in Havana becomes a privilege for her because so she is able to be part of Havana´s vibrant musical life and visit live concerts. 👩‍🎤👨‍🎤

🎉Meet Carmen, our Product Manager and palm trees' biggest lover 😍🌴

When it comes to Havana, Carmen loves discovering the countless bars 🥂. There is no such thing as enjoying a Daiquiri de Mango 🥭 while watching the hustle and bustle of the lively streets of Havana, she says. Especially now that everything comes back to life after having been closed for the past couple of months. 🎉

But what she loves even more is spending time at the beach 🏖️ If you know Carmen, you already know she feels really happy when there are palm trees around, never missing the opportunity to snap another picture 🖼️ That’s also why one of her  favorite places of the island is Baracoa…🌴🌴🌴 Palm trees as far as the eye can see, natural beaches of all shapes and colors 🌈 and endless opportunities for hiking tours 🧗‍♀️through the tropical jungle - that’s what best describes Baracoa to me, she says. A place, located at the far eastern end of Cuba, hard to reach, but so worth going. No wonder Columbus called it "the most beautiful land human eyes have ever seen" when he first landed there. 😍

There couldn’t be a bigger contrast to the lively Havana (where the beach isn’t that bad either by the way). 🏖️
