Good morning, everyone! Here's an update of Cebu Pacific media briefing.
🟡 Cebu Pacific continues to open more flights from Clark. This includes the transfer of flights to Siargao and Masbate to Clark.
🟡 Aside from Clark to Siargao, Cebu Pacific is also adding Clark–El Nido and Clark–Coron (Busuanga) beginning March 30.
🟡 Cebu Pacific will be the largest airline to operate from Clark with 15 destinations.
🟡 P2P buses are available for transfer between NAIA and Clark International Airport.
🟡 Direct Cebu Pacific Manila–Siargao flights will only be reinstated once IAO is able to accept Airbus jets. The runway of Siargao (IAO) can only take turboprop planes.
🟡 Passengers affected have the option to rebook for free, get a full refund, or convert their booking to a non-expiring travel fund.
PERSONAL INSIGHTS: The reason the MSCC decided to move turboprop flights to Clark is to maximize the limited slots at NAIA, prioritizing jets that carry 180 passengers or more over turboprops that carry fewer than 100 passengers.
However, this decision reduces connectivity between NCR and airports that can only accommodate turboprops, such as IAO, USU, and BSO. This will affect local tourism in those areas and impact airline finances, as these destinations are key tourist spots.
Expanding provincial airports to accommodate jets would be the best solution, but that is a huge challenge. Many runways cannot be lengthened due to terrain, weather conditions, and other factors.
Regarding AirSwift opening flights from Manila to Siargao, the airline's main focus has always been El Nido. It remains to be seen whether they will add Manila-Siargao flights. If they do, these flights could be booked on the Cebu Pacific website.
Cebu Pacific operating regional jets like the Airbus A220 and Embraer E190 is unlikely. These aircraft do not have the same capacity as A320s and 737s and cannot operate in some rural airports served by turboprops. There are also economic reasons why RJs are not the best solution to slot constraints. It would be better to wait for runways to be lengthened to accommodate A320 jets rather than relying on RJs.
Clark must now focus on improving land transportation access to and from the airport. CRK is more than two hours from Manila, and many people are unwilling to travel that far for a flight. Cebu Pacific must address this issue to maintain the momentum for Siargao and Masbate flights despite the transfer.
Cebu Pacific has always found ways to make things work, and it is likely they have a plan to handle this transition effectively.
