April 30th is the 'burning of the witches' in CZ. An effigy of a witch will be burnt on a huge bonfire this evening to ward off witches. Of course it is only appropriate I post this video today!

Taking a short holiday to my ancestral home of Berne, Switzerland. They have an astronomical clock as well which attracts throngs of tourists who spend 10 minutes waiting to film a 10 second show 😂.

The two men surrendering are not speaking German, they are speaking Czech saying: "Nestřílejte. Já jsem nikoho nezabil. Já jsem Čech.", which translates to: "Don't shoot. I haven't killed anyone. I'm Czech." Many men of occupied countries were drafted and forced to fight unwillingly in the N**i Wehrmacht during the war. If they didn't comply they were killed. Unfortunately many were still killed...

At 5 Pařížské Street lived a woman and her young son, In 1942 they were deported to Terezin and in 1944 to Auschwitz where they were murdered (zavražděn). Across the street at #10 lived a couple and their young son. In 1941 they were deported to Lodz and murdered. We often only hear these huge numbers when discussing the Holocaust and forget that these were individuals. In this country alone there were over 77,000 of these same stories to go with the many millions all over Europe. On this street alone there are at least 10 of these blocks, 10 stories, 10 innocent people murdered. To me this is as powerful as anything I've seen because it puts a story and a name with that person. But there are millions of other stories that will likely never be told....

Old Town Hall in Old Town Square. The photo on the left is from 15.3.1939. The photo in the middle is from 9.3.1945, the day after being destroyed by a German artilery shell. The photo on the right is from 9.5.2011, looking as it does today.

72 years ago this week. The first part of this film highlights the Prague Uprising, the days the people of Prague fought for freedom and to save their beautiful city from destruction. Notice the Astronomical Clock at the 2:35 mark. Thankfully this was restored unlike the Old Town Hall.
