🏰Did you know that the Prague Castle is not just the castle?

Originally a medieval structure, it used to have its own🌲forest & hunting 🏹 area, too. Today, there is the Stag Moat🦌, a natural ravine of the Brusnice stream deep bellow the former city walls. In 2001-7, a remarkable system of paths, hanging footbridges & beautiful brick tunnel based on design by architect J. Pleskot, were built along & through the slopes between the Upper and Lower Moats. What a truly special experience to delve in a wilderness in the shade of the iconic Prague Castle!

The Second Courtyard at the Prague Castle
The Second Courtyard Have a Peek in Windows of the Largest State Rooms in the Castle. Welcome to the Second Courtyard in the Prague Castle. You can reach this tour point from two directions. First, you can go through the Matthias Gate leading from Hradčanské square. Or second, you can enter through the Imperial Stables accessible from the Royal Garden and the Upper Stag Moat. We are at a courtyard which was established as an area in front of the castle in the late 16th century.

For 160 years, this house has been standing on the corner of Vltava embankment, with the famed Slavia Café on the ground floor. Crème de la crème of the European culture passed through here: composer 🎼 Antonín Dvořák; poet 📖Rainer Maria Rilke; Nobel Prize poet Jaroslav Seifert; writer ✒️ Franz Kafka, playwright-turned-dissident-turned-president 🎖️ Václav Havel, among others.
