I've embarked on a vibrant journey that has changed my life forever. I moved to Dublin, Ireland, in 2014, immersing myself in its vibrant culture as a starting point for my English language journey. I was fortunate to participate in the remarkable International Student Ambassador Programme for Education in Ireland. Representing the interests of international students has sharpened my advocacy skil

ls, empowering me to contribute to a positive academic experience. Interacting with students from diverse backgrounds has deepened my appreciation for cultural differences and fostered a more inclusive mindset. In the pursuit of new challenges, I made the leap to Germany, where I've been living for the past 4 years. My journey in Germany has been marked by continuous growth personally and professionally. Currently, I am a volunteer for a program dedicated to helping IT professionals worldwide secure job opportunities in Europe. I am passionate about facilitating meaningful connections and supporting career aspirations. I am excited about the opportunities ahead and look forward to further contributing to the dynamic landscape of global professionals.

Freelancing in Germany? Not the best choice; you should consider a stable long-term career. The German way leans towards valuing stable 9-5 jobs over freelancing and entrepreneurship. Yes, I said it.

The reality of English-speaking jobs in Germany is not what you've been told. Fact checks to consider before making any move ⚠️

While Germany's Federal Labor Agency reported nearly 900,000 job vacancies in June, particularly in sectors like transport and logistics, sales, service, and healthcare, it's crucial to note that 83% of these vacancies require proficiency in the German language. The percentage of English-speaking jobs in Germany has remained constant, and organizations hiring in English often have an abundance of applicants. If you're considering relocating to Germany for an English job, I would honestly recommend exploring countries with a more English-friendly job market or learning German before risking it all

Top Job Search Platforms 🌐LinkedIn, despite being beneficial for networking, hasn't proven helpful for job applications, at least not in Germany, not from my experience.

That's an honest review of job platforms for job seekers in Germany.

I find ⭐'efinancialcareers'⭐ to be an excellent platform for finance, legal, and compliance-related roles. If you're in these fields, it's worth a shot. Keep in mind that the majority of jobs in these fields are in Frankfurt am Main for a specific reason.

'Indeed' is not my preferred choice; even though I love the extensive filter options for job searches, it still fails to display the appropriate job roles I'm searching for. I find 'Stepstone' to be more effective in Germany, by the way - Stepstone is one of the most visited job platforms in Germany.

What about 'Xing'? If you're fluent in German and can afford the premium version, it excels notably, as recruiters frequently initiate contact with you.😊

When it comes to casual jobs and asking for referrals, I find 'Facebook' to be the easiest way to put myself out there. It beats 'LinkedIn' hands down! Seeking a referral on 'LinkedIn' usually works best when you've got a solid connection. On 'Facebook', you can simply ask for guidance/help! 🙌

Nevertheless, 'LinkedIn' is still the go-to for that professional touch. Ultimately, the top platform depends on where you are and what field you're in. 🌍

Is the romanticization of an international career driving you to work abroad? Please stop ⚠️

If you think that working abroad or having an international career is more glamorous or exciting than working in your home country, it's good to set realistic expectations and to weigh the pros and cons before making a decision.

A lot of people romanticize the idea of living in a foreign country, learning a new language, and experiencing different cultures, but it is important to remember that an international career also comes with its own set of challenges and difficulties.

For example, the cost of living may be higher, the language barrier can be difficult to overcome, and the legal and cultural differences can be hard to navigate... the list goes on and on 🤯

Indeed, if things do not go as planned, it may be possible to return back "home", but time is a valuable and finite resource! Opportunities and experiences may be missed while working abroad, and it can be difficult to regain that time.

Therefore, consider carefully the potential risks and challenges of an international career, and have a clear idea of what you want to achieve and what you are willing to compromise 😉

Non-EU citizens will be able to come to Germany to find work and get a residence permit more quickly with the new points-based immigration system designed to open up the possibility of long-term residence to more migrants.

Applicants for the scheme will have to fulfil at least three of the following four criteria:

1. They have a recognised degree or professional qualification
2. They have at least three years of professional experience
3. They can demonstrate German proficiency or previous residence in Germany
4. They are younger than 35

There’s currently a minimum score of 100 points required. Points may be scored from the following criteria (any combination permitted):

✅Mandatory knowledge of the German language (min. level required: A2): 25-50 points
✅ Previous stay in Germany: 50 points
✅ Previous stay in the EU: 25 points
✅ Advanced stage of the knowledge of the French or English language: 25 points

Each combination can score 100 points, but a German language level of 'A2' is required. In addition, your skills and qualifications must be recognized in Germany.

If you meet the above qualification and language requirements and score 100 points (or more), your application will be added to the pool of applications accessible to employers once you get a concrete job offer, you will be allowed to enter Germany and receive a work permit.

Ireland or Germany for Jobs? Both countries offer a lot of opportunities, but newcomers should be aware of differences in the job market.

I would recommend Ireland to fresh graduates, juniors, or anyone changing careers. In Ireland, it is easier to get a foot in the door and work directly or as a contingent worker for companies such as Meta, Google, IBM, Amazon and so on. Dreams do come true there! ☘️

While in Germany, startups, as well as established companies, have the same expectations, meaning you have to show what makes you stand out. It is therefore necessary that you have extensive work experience in your field, along with language skills, including English and German plus another EU language.

To sum up. Ireland is a great place if you're young and ambitious and want to explore career opportunities, and Germany is a great place if you're an experienced professional.

I had an amazing time in Ireland. Germany has been particularly challenging, but there is no growth in the comfort zone, right?
