Too all those who actually believe de-horning works, read this and weep. It was Bella who but a dent in drivers door in April 2017 when Tank was still really small....strange how meaningful and precious the ding in door is now!

Almost a year ago now, our beautiful rhino cow was poached, 6 days after being dehorned :(
She left behind a young calf named . Too big to be sent to an orphanage/rehab facility but also too young to go without milk and family.
Incredibly and mainly due to his persistence, one of our other rhino cows, also with a similar aged calf, eventually took him in nursing both her own calf and the orphan Tank.
What a RHINO she is, a !
It's incredibly heartwarming to see these three together, the close bond they have formed and how tender and talkative they are between themselves.
This is just one story of many many unusual occurances that are playing out due to the pressure of poaching on our nations rhino.....
Do you have or know of any such stories? Please share them here with us.....

As with so many beautiful creatures being poached for Chinese medicines, additives and delicacies! Poached pangolins are shipped to their illegal destinations mostly "alive"...it's not just the scales that are (as with rhino horn, just keratin like our fingernails) used in traditional Chinese medicine, but the meat is a delicacy in China and the blood is supposedly some super "tonic"!!!

Eye of the Pangolin is the story of two men on a mission to get all four species of African pangolin on camera for the very first time. As they travel the co...

Our Story

“My South Africa Tours & Safaris came into being as an idea after sitting around a campfire with 4 young tourists to South Africa who had absolutely no real “plan” as to what and where they where going. I watched them roll dice, draw straws and randomly point to places on a map, then debate the decision of the next activity or travel plans as decided by fate! I was the senior guide at this particular lodge at the time and out of curiosity I came over and asked if I could perhaps assist in any way. One thing led to another and it became apparent that their plan was to actually not have one...just travel! While I admired the idea and the free spirit of these travellers I couldn’t help but ask - “Why?”. They said that they had started out on a bus/group tour but didn’t like the constraints it came with it so they abandoned the tour, hired a vehicle and with some idea of what they wanted and what they’d heard about over and above what they would be doing on the tour, decided that they would tackle South Africa on their own!

I obviously had to point out certain inherent dangers and offered advice as far as I could. The next afternoon I received a call from them asking for directions and any other suggestions I had...They where lost somewhere in Durban! I directed them to the Marine Parade, uShaka Marine World where a friend and fellow guide met them and escorted them out of the city and onto the N2 with directions to the Wild Coast. That was the start of a wonderful journey...I guided them through South Africa from Hluhluwe all the way to Cape Town and back to O.R. Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg on a cellphone and with help from fellow guides along the way. We stayed in touch long after this and one thing led to another that has brought us at “My South Africa” to this point...never forgetting the basics of what we’re here to do but also to ensure that what you want is possible and give good, honest, ethical advice and support on your travels.

It was clear that at one point we would be planning and executing the tours ourselves...but all based on your ideas, dreams and desires. Making what is possible happen and finding alternatives when logistics don’t allow what you had in mind. We will always retain that free spirited approach that led to the formation of “My South Africa Tours & Safaris, maintaining the same ethos that allowed us to become what we are, nothing will change that. So when you need advice, a great itinerary, support or a guide to accompany you...work with us and together we design and plan your ideal tour/holiday! Guided countrywide tours designed with and done with you!
