SRPING IS IN THE AIR: Our HANSEATIC spirit is on a cruise into spring along the coast of Norway. First stop: Bergen welcomed the ship with mild temperatures. Ålesund, which was in heavy snow when we visited the town in February, is also in spring mode. From there the journey continues north: Tromsø, Honningsvåg, the North Cape and Alta. We are excited to see what kind of weather and how much snow awaits us, as we are hoping to see some Northern Lights. Please enjoy Impressions from our last trip there.

HOLA EUROPA 2: Suitcases and boxes with plenty of equipment and fashion pieces, models and stylists, assistants, photographers and a video team – in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, our EUROPA 2 will turn into a studio for a fashion photo shooting over the next couple of days. What we can already reveal: these are the first signs of an event this June. Stay tuned for more!

THE BREATH OF HISTORY: After many failed attempts the wreck of the "Endurance" was found on March 5. Images show the ship of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton unscathed on the seabed of Antarctica. Shackleton is a hero and omnipresent on our expedition cruises. Also involved in the search was sea ice physicist Dr. Stefanie Arndt from the German Alfred Wegener Institute .

MUSIC AT SEA: After a two-year break due to the pandemic, the renowned OCEAN SUN FESTIVAL is back on the EUROPA! The festival offers guests exceptional musical enjoyment both on board and on land and becomes a stage for selected artists from the international classical music scene. The exclusive classical music festival on the high seas is from Tenerife to Bilbao, May 15-27, 2022, and includes pianist Alexander Krichel , soprano Patricia Petibon Machreich Artists and the Goldmund Quartett .

MORE THAN ICE. We think, every place in Antarctica should be called – Paradise Bay. But when you enter this natural haven with one of our expedition cruise ships, you get an idea why seafarers have been using the name Paradise Harbour or Paradise Bay since the 1920s: a wide bay, the deep blue water dotted with white chunks of ice. In the background, the rugged peaks of the Antarctic Peninsula open up. Every now and then mystical mists cover this bight and slowly opens up, so that the beauty of this place is revealed bit by bit.

MORE THAN ICE: The fascination of begins in South Georgia. The island lies in between the Antarctic Convergence. Here the "warm" waters from the Pacific, Atlantic and Indian Ocean meet the cold Southern Ocean of the Antarctic continent. You can feel the difference in temperature on board. One of the most impressive places to do this is Gold Harbour on South Georgia. Tens of thousands of king penguins nest in the small bay into which the Bertrab Glacier flows. They live in harmony with a colony of elephant seals, albatrosses and fur seals.

NORTHERN LIGHTS EXPLAINED: When our HANSEATIC spirit travels to Northern Norway, there is a good chances of seeing the polar lights. They are formed when strong solar winds throw electrically charged particles into space. Electrons and protons collide with the uppermost layers of the atmosphere and deform them in such a way that fluorescent lights are produced.The intensity of the phenomenon depends on solar activity.
