Travelistabonita I am a Zoologist by trade but at heart an explorer! I want to help people travel ethically and sustainably so that we can lessen our environmental impact.

I'm a latina who is passionate about travel and the environment. I am a Wildlife biologist and psychologist by education, but a nomad and explorer at heart. My right hand either has either a computer or book in it when indoors, but I'm mostly outdoors connecting with nature and capturing it with my camera. I'm sure that the future will be in eco-friendly travel and products as much as it is in ren

ewable energy right now. I want to be the foremost authority on green travel and I want to inspire the world through rich photographs and exciting videos that exhibit how it can be both fun and easy to go green when we travel. From sustainable clothing, recycled goods, products with a purpose, vegetarian food, local travel initatives, and more we can make the world a better place and be successful at the same time.

I'm still getting used to celebrating on the 24th here in Germany, but can't complain about two days of gifts I guess!

Although I try not to be superficial I gotta say I'm absolutely thrilled to step up my photography game with a new Sony full frame body ๐Ÿ˜ thankful for 's generosity and kindness. Less than a week until Christmas!!! ๐ŸŽ…๐Ÿผ So it may be a bit late, but let's talk about ๐ŸŽ„
๐ŸŒฒ
So as someone who tries to be I delved deep into the plastic vs organic debate and here is the dish. Both are sh*tty for the environment. Tree farms take away space from other local species in many areas and since trees are cut at young ages the carbon they absorb is relatively little compared to if they were allowed to grow to maturity. In addition, the short term use of the tree ends up creating more waste than a plastic tree. While plastic trees take a lot of energy and resources to make and obviously can't be disposed of in an way. However, if you buy one with the intent on using it for life, after about 10 years the tree reaches net neutrality.
๐ŸŒฒ
So who wins in the great debate?
The clear winner is a POTTED organic tree! This allows both enjoyment, no waste, and giving back to nature after the after you plant the tree! Of course this may not be for everybody since large trees would require even larger pots and thus can't fit in some spaces, but if you really want to be on that train scale down this year with a potted tree and ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ

One of the most things we can do as consumers is (business that source and produce their products locally and thus have a lesser footprint than an international brand) and support rather than large corporations.

Wine ๐Ÿทone of the key ingredients to surviving #2020 and my favorite drink behind mojitos๐Ÿน
But do you really know what's even in your glass? Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the majority of wines are not or even !
๐Ÿ˜ฑ
The reason thatย all wines are not veganย or evenย vegetarian-friendly has to do with how theย wineย is clarified and a process called 'fining' a way to reduce tanin harshness. Traditionally the most commonly used fining agents were casein (a milk/bone protein), albumin (egg whites), gelatin (animal protein) and isinglass (fish bladder protein).
๐ŸŸ
Although these ingredients are not required to be listed in many countries many companies are choosing to and use plant based fining agents rather than animal based ones. So next time you hit the wine section keep your eyes out for wines with the Vegan symbol on them!
๐ŸŒฑ
Did you know most wines are not vegan or vegetarian?! Send this post to a wine loving friend who ought to know!

The election is over (despite what some say) and I'm beyond thrilled that has won! ๐ŸŽ‰๐ŸŽŠ Even though I live in Germany I have dreams of going back home to live in the US again one day, but as a Latina environmentalist this didn't seem like any possible reality under Trump. Although neither nor will change over night just because we will have a new administration, I have hope in a more equal and brighter future under Biden/Harris.
๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
But enough of politics. Back to pretty s! I've lived in and around Stuttgart for almost three years now and NEVER KNEW how effing beautiful the vineyards of are during Autumn ๐Ÿ˜ it really was almost like an autumn dream walking through endless corridors of colorful leaves and picturesque viewpoints. If you're ever in Germany around this time you DEFINITELY should visit!

Thanks for the shot ๐Ÿ“ท Edited by me ๐Ÿ˜Ž

You know what's the scariest thing this Halloween? The fact that Donald Trump could come back for four more years.
๐Ÿ˜ฑ
I know politics isn't popular and most Americans would rather avoid discussing their viewpoints, but it's important to be able to express and yes defend why we support a candidate. It's important to FULLY understand their stances on issues like climate change, abortion, and racism. And most of all it is important to be able to keep an open mind to BOTH sides and make a well informed choice based on reason and research rather than be swayed by partisan and sensational media.
๐Ÿ‘ป
If you're from the US I hope you exercise your right to vote. Even if we disagree on the candidate I hope you can justify your choice beyond more than their stance on just "one topic". There is too much at stake this election to ignore 80 topics in support of just one.

Resurge ๐ŸŒŠ yesterday Germany hit a new daily record of reported COVID19 infections...almost 12,000 in 24 hours ๐Ÿ˜ฑ as the numbers continue to grow more and more rules are being implemented. Internal travel is now being discouraged (and you can't stay overnight in certain areas of Germany if you come from "risk" regions), new limitations for bars/cafes, new restrictions on alcohol, and more canceled events (if you were hoping to come for Christmas markets that is not going to happen in most places). ๐Ÿ’” It's heartbreaking to know that if people had listened to restrictions more dutifully we could have avoided this, but all there's left to do now is encourage others to respect the rules, ๐Ÿ˜ท, keep your distance, avoid travel, and try to keep safe.

I'm so glad that and myself were able to have this experience at before things got this bad here. What's going on in your country? Is there a resurge happening or are rates staying relatively flat?! Let me know in the comments!

Sinto falta da minha avรณ. ๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿฆณ
Around this time most years (well since I've moved to Germany) I'd be getting ready to go see my grandmother in Portugal. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡น It's one of the best times of the year to visit the country since it's a little cooler and fewer tourists, but this year I won't be going to see her since I don't want to risk her health. Also cases are on the rise here in Europe so until they generally go down again I'll be staying put in Germany.
๐Ÿ˜ฅ
Who are you missing because of COVID19?! Feel free to vent it out with me in the comments!

Have you ever seen West Side Story? Well it's not just a story that Puerto Ricans used to be by law segregated and discriminated against in the USA. Seperate schools, neighborhoods, and places to eat/go to the bathroom.
This is how my father grew up in the USA.
๐Ÿ˜ข
Due to that history he tried to disconnect me from my Puerto Rican roots by not learning Spanish or our culture. I can't blame him for wanting him to shield me from the pains of being a on the mainland, but I'm glad that today I've embraced and become a proud Latina. I won't let a past of hate or leaders who spew it make me ashamed of who I am.

Climate change literally affects everyone and everything. ๐Ÿฅต It breaks my heart and soul to see the West coast of the USA burning. So many beautiful forests and wonderful creatures hurt needlessly. ๐Ÿ˜ญ But this is not an isolated case...the fires have increased in size every year over the last ten years. Fires are also ravaging the Amazon and peat forests of Indonesia, destroying so many unique and wonderful places.
๐ŸŒ
We need to do more. We need to make changes now. We can't keep living the same way with our heads buried in the sand blind to how our choices affect the world around us.
๐Ÿ—บ๏ธ
So here is a little something you can do today to help climate change. After 100K people post a picture or video (of a place impacted by climate change) with the hashtag Facebook will donate 100,000 dollars to the Arbor Day Foundation. Kind of silly, but a simple way to help get critical funds to an NGO making a difference in the battle against climate change. So far 14K have participated ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ and this is legit BTW. I already shared this on my Facebook with some images of my trips to Peru and Iceland.
๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ฎ๐Ÿ‡ธ
Where have you seen some of the biggest impacts of climate change?

At least 2020 and COVID19 didn't kill the Ludwigsburg ! The largest pumpkin festival in the world is going on as scheduled, but with some modifications to keep visitors safe.
๐Ÿ˜ท
Each of the pumpkin structures will be distanced further apart than in the past. So in turn mintain your distance from others and do not crowd the exhibits. There will be smaller more frequent demonstrations rather than large events (like the pumpkin regatta). And in order to encourage distributed crowds the festival will go on longer than usual this year.
๐ŸŽƒ
Generally it seemed like these precautions were working, except in the Fairytale forest where I saw a lot of crowding and limited distancing. But either way if you're in the area and want the ultimate experience, complete with gourmet pumpkin foods, give the a visit! This year's theme is Music ๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽง๐ŸŽถ

โ€œIf you think adventure is dangerous, try routine: Itโ€™s lethal.โ€ - Paul Coelho
๐ŸŒ„
The thing I hate most is to feel stuck in a never ending routine. I find myself drowning in the monotony of doing the same thing over and over again. Which is why I try to take as many spontaneous adventures as possible to refresh my spirits! Which do you prefer? Spontaneity or routine?

How do you get around?
๐Ÿš‰๐Ÿš™๐Ÿ›ต๐Ÿšฒ๐ŸšŽ๐Ÿ๏ธ๐Ÿ›ด๐Ÿš†
At home or abroad do you normally take public transport or stick to your own private set of wheels? Well, since I moved to Europe I've generally relied on public transportation and it has been wonderful to be able to be so eco-friendly and so well connected. In the US our public transportation is pretty abysmal. A few big cities have metros, we have a few train lines, and buses are quite common in populated areas, but overall we are pretty disconnected unless you have a car. Some big changes are coming to my life and I've been saving for a while to finally buy my own wheels! So I'd love to ask you all...what do you think is the most eco-friendly private transportation on the market? Electric cars? Hybrids? Biofuel capable cars? Scooters?

There are so many Easter eggs relating to Shakespeare and his famous novel found around the city! From Juliet's house, to inscriptions from the play around the walls of the city, to performances of his greatest works in the arena! It was so nice to revisit one of the places I hardly got to see on the last Italy trip! Verona ๐Ÿ˜
There are an endless number of charming alleys to explore and delicious foods to try.
๐Ÿ
I for one have always enjoyed good food, but hardly ever gone to "high-class" restaurants. My first "adult" experiences were supposed to be at Maido and Central in Lima, but COVID killed those dreams. So I was really thrilled to visit a Michelin recommended restaurant in Verona. was an absolutely delicious experience from start to finish! The wine recommendations were phenomenal and the food impeccable. Plus the restaurant decor is beautiful with a view straight to the arena! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ Also for the other vegetarians out there, Verona is known for a red wine risotto which you NEED to try if you are ever in the area.
๐Ÿท
Have you ever eaten at a Michelin star or recommended restaurant?! I'd love to hear your recommendations especially if they are vegetarian friendly!!!

Thanks for the meal and ๐Ÿ“ธ
