In this new series, we answer some of your frequently asked questions. Starting with one, that seems kind of obvious, but actually isn’t:
What makes a hotel sustainable?
Is it the beehive? The solar panels? The compensation of emissions?
While all these things are probably part of the sustainable efforts of hotels, they are not the basis. What we are looking for in our partners (and found ;) ) is a true commitment to sustainability, including all three pillars: ecology, economy, and social responsibility. Acknowledging these three pillars and integrating them into the strategy is the first step and super important. Just then, efficient and concrete measures can follow. So, what makes a hotel sustainable are of course the sustainable initiatives, like water-saving, local engagement, fair wages, and solar panels. But it all starts with a sustainable mindset – and a solid strategy.
