🥖🍽️🌱 Thousands of tons of edible food are discarded due to logistical issues, improper storage, and market dynamics that prioritize cosmetic standards over nutritional value. 🌟
Food banks are dedicated to reducing food waste and alleviating hunger by collecting surplus food from producers, manufacturers, retailers, and other points along the supply chain, and distribute it to individuals or families in need. The food donations include items that may have minor packaging defects or are approaching their expiration dates but remain safe and nutritious for consumption.
We arrange Food Bank volunteering opportunities in several countries, including South Africa, Bolivia, the USA, and Japan.

🌴♻️ Because wooden beams in Zanzibar's tropical climate are quickly destroyed by rot and termites 🐜 (needing replacement every 2–3 years 😮), at out Mother Nature Camp in Matemwe, we’ve started replacing them with beams made from recycled hard plastic! 💡👏
Plastic waste like HDPE and PP is melted at the Zanrec recycling facility 🔄🔥 and transformed into durable, termite-resistant beams. 💪🌟
💚🫡 Let’s turn waste into innovation!

🏖️🐚 Leave the Shells, Save the Crabs! 🦀✨
Did you know that hermit crabs depend on seashells as their homes? 🏠 When you take larger shells from the beach, you take away a crucial resource for these little creatures. 🌊
🐚 Hermit crabs don’t grow their own shells—they move into empty ones as they grow.
🌍 Over-collecting shells disrupts this natural process, leaving crabs vulnerable to predators and the elements.
🌟 A single shell could be home to many crabs over time!
So next time you're at the beach, enjoy the beauty of shells where they belong—in nature! 🌴🌺
📸 Snap a picture instead and help protect marine ecosystems. 💙

🌊💙 Ever wondered why the ocean looks so stunningly turquoise, especially in warmer climate zones? Here’s the science behind the magic! ☀️🌴
The turquoise color comes from sunlight 🌞 interacting with water. As light enters the ocean, longer wavelengths (like red and orange) are absorbed first, while shorter wavelengths (like blue and green) scatter back, creating that gorgeous hue.
In warmer climate zones, the water often has fewer particles and less plankton, making it crystal-clear. This clarity allows more sunlight to scatter, enhancing those vibrant shades of turquoise. 🐠✨
Our program locations with stunning turquoise oceans include Zanzibar, Tanzania, South Africa, Malta, Japan (e.g. Okinawa), South Korea (e.g. Jeju), China (e.g. Hainan), India (e.g. Goa), Nicaragua and Morocco.
Who else feels like diving into paradise? 🌴🏖️

Originating in Zanzibar, taarab music blends instruments like the oud, accordion, and drums for a uniquely East African experience. The music genre fuses Arabic, African, Indian, and Western influences, creating a rich, soulful sound that has defined the Swahili coast for generations 🌍 The word "taarab" means "to be moved or enchanted" in Arabic, which is exactly what this music aims to do—captivate its listeners with poetic lyrics and rhythmic melodies ️.

🌊🐢Turtle Hatchling Release on 14th and 16th September 2025
This weekend, we released the last nest from the hatchery. The first half of the nest hatched on Saturday night, and the second half on Monday afternoon. Turtles should be released immediately after hatching to ensure their best chance of survival. In the wild, hatchlings instinctively head toward the ocean as soon as they emerge from their nests. This critical journey helps them avoid predators and strengthens their muscles for swimming. Delaying their release can increase the risk of predation and disrupt their natural imprinting process, which is vital for guiding them back to their birthplace when they reach maturity.
Immediate release into the ocean helps preserve their natural behavior and supports the long-term health of sea turtle populations. Through the Matemwe program and our partnership with Under the Wave and their turtle nesting center, we are actively contributing to the growth of the turtle population.
