Premier big-wave spot, Nazare on last Monday, received the first XL swell of the North Atlantic big-wave season showed itself on the shores of Praia do Norte. For those who were on the ground at Portugal’s , saw in first hand the scene in that little town with a big heart felt like a homecoming of sorts.

A lot of the time, a good surf trip isn’t really about the waves. Sure, they’re the vessel for the trip, but the real experience comes from looking for those waves. It comes from all the things that happen in between waves, peering hopefully around the next headland, laughing and wondering how the waves are begging the fog, or just simply exploring somewhere new.

Epic weekend at Nazaré. Waves were firing and we can finally say season has started.

Did you know that away from the monster-sized peaks of Nazare, there's a very special beachbreak barrel too? On Saturday, Hurricane Danielle unloaded on Praia do Norte and the result was perfect barrels.
