Easter Island was formed by a series of volcanic eruptions. During her fam trip, Maylig visited the stunning crater lake near the inactive Rano Kau volcano, the largest volcano on the island, surrounded by microfauna and lush vegetation. 🌺🌋

Rano Kau is not just a geological wonder, it's also a cultural landmark. It's associated with the Tangata Manu ceremony, where the new birdman is announced and the ceremonial centre of Orongo celebrates the new chief. 🦅🌿

One of the most remote inhabited places in the world - Easter Island or Rapa Nui 🏝️

This enigmatic island is famous for its nearly thousand towering statues, called moai, which stand as silent sentinels across its landscape. Despite extensive research, these stone giants remain surrounded by mystery and legend. 🗿🌅

Join our colleague Maylig on her fascinating journey to the moais of Rapa Nui 😍 Can you imagine how huge these stone figures are?

The SAT Ecuador team recently visited our community project in Imbabura, in the northern Andean region of Ecuador. 💚🦋

SAT supports a group of women from the Topo community who have embraced tourism to improve their standard of living, create gender equality and empower women. They now offer rural community tourism services such as homestays and traditional activities, inviting guests to participate in their traditional and ancestral way of life.

Our colleagues enjoyed a wonderful day learning about our sustainable initiatives within the community. They shared a pachamanca lunch - an ancestral cooking method - made handmade bread and played traditional games. 🌿✨

Exciting News for Birdwatchers: For a limited time, experience a unique birding adventure in Tambopata, in the heart of the Peruvian Amazon. Witness the rare and elusive Crested Eagle in its natural habitat. 🦅

Just 30 minutes from Refugio Amazonas Lodge, the team discovered a Crested Eagle nest. From a specially designed blind, you can watch the majestic mother eagle care for her chick without disturbing them. The Crested Eagle Nest Observation activity is available in the afternoons and lasts approximately 2 hours, with the blind accommodating up to 10 people per day.

This is a rare opportunity to appreciate the thriving Amazon ecosystem. 🌿🌿
The SAT team will be happy to put together a unique Amazon programme for birdwatchers and nature lovers alike!

Iguassu's Devil's Throat Circuit will reopen on 13 July 2024! 🌿🌟

Devil's Throat, or "Garganta del Diablo", is the most impressive section of the majestic Iguazu Falls. It plunges more than 80m (262ft) into a frothy, mist-filled pool, part of a horseshoe-shaped cascade of 14 falls. Visitors can reach Devil's Throat by taking the Jungle Train to Devil's Throat Station, followed by a leisurely walk over a footbridge. At the end, a viewing platform offers breathtaking views of this natural wonder.

After closing in November 2023 due to water damage, we're delighted to announce that the Devil's Throat Circuit will reopen on 13 July 2024. Newly repaired walkways and improved viewing platforms promise a safe and memorable experience to admire the mighty Iguazu Falls. Join us to rediscover the awe-inspiring beauty of Devil's Throat! 💚💦

Travel back in time and experience the most important Inca festival with the re-enactment of an ancient ceremony to honour the sun god at the winter solstice: Inti Raymi. 🌞

Every year on 24 June, the streets of Cusco come alive with colourful costumes, music and dance. The vibrant procession begins at Koricancha, the Temple of the Sun, makes its way to the main square, Plaza de Armas, and culminates at Sacsayhuamán. Here, the grand finale includes a ritual animal sacrifice to ensure abundant crops for the year, followed by music and free concerts throughout the city.

The SAT Peru team is excited to organise an unforgettable Inti Raymi experience for you and your guests. Join us for this magical celebration! ✨

21 June marks the winter solstice in the southern hemisphere and is celebrated as New Year's Day by the Aymara people of Bolivia. ☀️✨

On this day, the sun is at its furthest point from the earth, making it the shortest day and the longest night of the year. This date marks the end of the harvest and the beginning of a new agricultural cycle.

On the night of 20 June, the people, called together by wise men (yatiris) and Andean priests (amautas), gather around a ceremonial table decorated with coca, alcohol and other elements of Andean rites to bid farewell to the old year. They keep vigil throughout the night, awaiting the dawn of the new day when the first rays of sunlight reflect off the sacred sites of Tiwanaku.

Experience the ceremonial rites of the Andes at sunrise and visit the archaeological complex of Tiwanaku, a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the southeastern shore of Lake Titicaca, on this magical and spiritual day! 🌅

Andrea, our Sustainability Officer, recently visited the Tambococha community in the Sacred Valley of the Incas, close to Cusco, and was blown away by how beautiful the area is and how friendly everyone was. The green landscapes and rich cultural atmosphere make it a truly special place. 🌿✨
