Golden Hour with two Avocas

An Elephant died close to Chitwa Chitwa just before one of my trips to the Sands. The Nkuhuma pride quickly found the carcass.

They were accompanied by the two males named Mohawk and Blondie.

We visited the pride on most drives and this portrait of one of the males is one of my favorites from these sightings.

Blondie died last year, leaving Mohawk as the only remaining Northern Avoca Male.

Wow! What an incredible place with amazing friendly hardworking staff. We just loved our stay. 6 years ago we visited sister venue, Erongo Wilderness and were even more impressed with Ai Aiba. Rooms were stunning, staff friendly and helpful and the nature walks were lovely. We will definitely be back. Food was excellent. My husband is a birder and saw plenty of special birds. Best stay we have had in Namibia. We can highly recommend Ai Aiba.

What a place to relax….. ❤️🍀

This lioness is proving she can lounge comfortably in a tree as well as any leopard. Climbing trees just to relax is not typical lion behaviour but in some areas it's quite common, and is probably a learned “culture” within some prides. I photographed this lioness in Ndutu in Tanzania where there is a particular area where lions are regularly seen resting up in trees, probably to get away from biting insects or to catch a slight breeze.
