🐾 We have known for a while that we have a regular 'visitor' walking up and down our beach - we have been seeing the tracks in the sand but haven't managed to catch sight of the culprit. Until this week, when our guests spotted this guy as he took his afternoon beach walk!

Wild pigs are relatively common in South Sulawesi but they are often hunted either for their meat, or because they are known to be occasionally aggressive when under threat. This guy seems to keep himself to himself so we don't mind him taking advantage of the safety of our beach!

🐢 Our resident sea turtles are nesting! Early in the morning last week we spotted these sea turtle tracks on our beach. A female turtle had made her way up the beach to lay her eggs before heading back out to the ocean. We have calculated the dates and the nest is due to hatch between 31st December 2024 and 1st January 2025 - possibly the first Selayar sea turtles of 2025!!

🚤 Welcome to our FIRST guests of this 2024/2025 season!! We were super excited to welcome these guys who have traveled to Selayar from Germany 🇧🇪 and the United States 🇺🇸!

🐟 Just another day underwater in Selayar! This was taken at one of our favorite and most southerly dive sites - Appatanah Cave (it's a beautiful 5-meter-long swim through). The entrance to the swim through is often shrouded with glassfish and you never know what you might spot inside!

📸 It also makes an awesome wide angle underwater photography subject!

🏝 We love to walk the length of our beach to see what critters are making it 'home' and to check for turtle tracks in the sand. Our beach is also one of the best beaches for shell collecting in South Sulawesi!

📸 This little crab was enjoying the shade (and hiding) behind a leaf while looking a little bit curious about the camera at the same time!!

🐋 We are preparing to open for our 2024/2025 season on Friday and we've already had some incredible marine life sightings from breaching pygmy blue whales (approx 20 meters in body length), leaping manta rays, our resident schooling jacks under the jetty, and turtles nesting underneath the restaurant!!

🐢 Turtle time!! This guy was taking a break - and the opportunity to pose for the camera!

🐢 We are preparing to open for our 2024/2025 season on Friday and already we have seen that our resident green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) are thriving in numbers - multiple sightings of turtles in front of the jetty and in the Selayar Dive Resort Bay!

🐢 We've even seen turtles nesting and laying their eggs underneath the restaurant, and two days ago there were telltale turtle tracks from the edge of the water, up the beach and back down. We've identified where the nest is and calculated that the eggs will be hatching around 31st December/1st January - they may be the first Selayar turtles of 2025!!

🐠 Schooling jacks! So many fish this season including schooling juvenile jacks underneath our jetty and HUGE schools of jacks at Shark Point (so very happy sharks too....🦈 !!)
