Ice-blue lights and the scent of mulled wine

When colorful lights illuminate the historic market square of Bremen, the smell of mulled wine is in the air and cozy stalls offer handicrafts, it's that time again: the traditional Christmas market invites you around the romantic backdrop of the UNESCO World Heritage Bremen Town Hall and Roland. The atmospheric pre-Christmas season begins on November 25th and lasts until December 23rd.

Christmas magic in the Advent city of Quedlinburg

Quedlinburg is once again transformed into THE Advent city. The Christmas market (November 29th – December 22nd) is one of the most beautiful and popular in all of Germany. With the so-called "Advent in the courtyards" (during all advent weekends), the Mine Lights Market with mountain parade, Advent in the Stiftshof, the lively Advent calendar and a variety of concerts, there is a lot to see and to experience.

The Bürgerpark (=Citizens Park) and the ramparts are ideal for lovely walks. The 'Mühle am Wall' is a windmill in the ramparts of the city of Bremen. The mill has been listed as an individual site in the state monument list of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen since 1953.

'Trier stood before Rome for one thousand and three hundred years,' claims the inscription on the Red House on the main market in Trier. This is a medieval invention that contemporaries already knew couldn't be true. But in the fight for dignity and reputation, every means was acceptable. 😊 Augustus Treverorum, as it was called during times, founded in 16 BC under Emperor Augustus, and therefore has a 2,000-year history that can be experienced everywhere. But don't worry: Trier is, at its heart, also a young city in terms of accessable culture and lifestyle and the close coexistence of young and old gives Trier its special charm.

A walk through the courtyard garden of the UNESCO World Heritage Würzburg Residence is particularly beautiful in autumn. Brightly colored leaves offer a view of one of the most important baroque castles in Europe. The Würzburg Residence is a masterpiece by the architect Balthasar Neumanns and is the third building in Germany to be designated a World Heritage Site. Inside, the world's largest ceiling fresco by Tiepolo is a special highlight.

Over 800 years of history on around 240 hectares: The Wilhelmshöhe mountain park, which is unique in the world, shows how garden art developed in Europe - and how rulers used it to represent their omnipotence. Nowhere else has a park of this size been built on a steep slope. The staging of the water on the mountain is also special: in a tremendous spectacle, it falls from the Hercules monument over artificial rock formations, cascades and an aqueduct.

The park with its historic water features has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2013. The traces of the park's long history, from the small monastery to the monumental baroque garden to the English landscape garden, are visible in many places. Numerous parts of the park have been preserved in their original form. The wealth of trees and plants is also unique and includes some trees that are over 200 years old.

4.8 million bricks!!! The Chilehaus was built from this and is an example of the brick expressionism of the 1920s. Due to its outstanding importance for urban change in the 20th century, it was added to the World Heritage List in 2015 along with the 'Speicherstadt'.
