“We’re in the dreams-business.”

At SAFARI FRANK, we’re not just planning trips – we’re in the business of making dreams come true. Every safari we design is a labour of love, crafted by our team of passionate safari-planners who know Africa like the back of their hand. We’ve experienced it firsthand – getting out in the wild brings people closer to each other and to nature. That’s because there’s

a bit of wild in all of us, and a safari brings it out. When it does, we naturally want to keep that wildness safe – in the world and in ourselves. We hope your journey instils in you the same love for “Safari Africa” that inspired us to start this company. Let’s make the world a little wilder, one safari at a time.

If we had to use only one word to describe Namibia it would have to be 🙌 SPACE 🙌

…But luckily, we get a few more: Namibia is heart-stopping sunsets, unparalleled wildlife encounters, diverse cultural and geographical heritage, jaw-dropping landscapes from the very bottom all the way to the tip of the country. A photographer’s paradise, you’d be hard-pressed *not* to take a good photo anywhere you point your camera.

Have you been to Namibia? What did you love the most? 🔥

African wild dogs are truly remarkable animals and one of our favourites to encounter on safari. They’re one of Africa’s most successful hunters, with a kill rate of around 80% - far higher than lions at an average of about 30%. They achieve this through extraordinary teamwork and stamina, running down prey in coordinated chases that can last for kilometres — and can be quite chaotic at times!

What’s particularly fascinating is their democratic decision-making process. When it’s time to hunt, the pack makes decisions through a unique behavior called “sneezing votes.” The more sneezes heard during their pre-hunt gatherings, the more likely the pack is to head out hunting.

Unlike many other pack animals, it’s the females who typically leave their birth pack to join new groups, while males stay with their natal pack. The whole pack helps raise the pups, with even adult males regurgitating food for them and caring for sick or injured pack members.

Their distinctive Mickey Mouse-like ears and mottled coats are unique to each individual - no two wild dogs have the same pattern. These patterns help them recognize each other and coordinate during hunts.

But despite being such effective hunters, they’re surprisingly non-aggressive toward each other when feeding. Unlike many predators, they rarely fight over food and even let younger pack members eat first.

Unfortunately, they’re one of Africa’s most endangered carnivores. and interestingly, their incredible social bonds can actually work against them when disease strikes, as their habit of caring for sick pack members might help spread infections through the pack…

I don’t know who needs to hear this but:

If you think a safari is a crowded experience with fifty vehicles in a predator sighting, please know that there is a different way. There are plenty of alternatives to the famous destinations, all across the continent.

Just to name a few:

🐘 If it’s the wide open spaces like those of the Serengeti you’re seeking, consider for example Liuwa Plain in Zambia instead (where this photo was taken). By choosing a lesser-known park, your visit makes a huge difference and can literally safeguard the future for animals and people living there.

🐘 If you have always wanted to see the Serengeti or the Masai Mara, you can opt for a low season safari in instead (you’d be saving some money, too!) Predators don’t migrate, so all the big cats will still be there but the crowds won’t be!

🐘 If you‘re dying to see leopards and lions, the private nature reserves of Klaserie and Timbavati in South Africs are a safe bet. (these reserves are part of the Greater Kruger National Park without any fences, but without the potential crowds of Kruger National park itself)

🐘 If its elephants you’re after, the Okavango Deta in Botswana will blow your mind. (We recommend a mobile safari - just talk to us, we got you covered!)

🐘 And lastly, a piece of advice: If you find yourself in a crowded sighting where you feel the animal is under too much pressure - just ask your guide to leave. Trust us: he or she will respect that — they just want to make sure you as the guest have a great time. Enjoy the wilderness instead and let your guide shine by tracking and finding his or her “own animal sightings”. And even if you don’t end up seeing the “big hairy scaries” that day, a safari is about so much more, and you will always see something exciting out there.

Safaris are a fantastic way to reconnect with nature, to learn from the locals and the animals, and make sure their habitats are preserved. Let’s be good guests in that world they allow us in 🙏🏼
