Fantastic trip!
"We traveled as a whole family with children, grandchildren, and partners to Reykjavik. The trip was beyond expectations! Everything was great! Especially the wonderful excursions to the Golden Circle and the Blue Lagoon. We also visited the Eimverk Distillery for a tasting, which we highly recommend. We ate at several restaurants and always had excellent food, with fantastic staff. The breakfast at Fosshotel Baron was very good. The weather varied every day, but it was mostly sunny and nice. We are super satisfied with everything!"

Did you know that the black streaks in Mýrdalsjökull's ice layers are ash from past volcanic eruptions that have been forming for hundreds of years, including from Katla, the powerful volcano beneath the glacier? 🌋❄️

Unlike many countries that have a single Santa, Iceland has thirteen! The Jólasveinar (Yule Lads) are mischievous characters who visit children one by one on the 13 nights before Christmas.
Kids place a shoe on their windowsill each night, hoping for a treat from these quirky visitors—if they've been good. But beware, naughty behavior might earn you... a rotten potato! 🥔
The Yule Lads are the mischievous sons of Grýla, a fearsome troll who makes stew from naughty children, and her lazy husband Leppalúði. They also have a giant black cat, the Christmas Cat, who hunts those without new clothes for Christmas.
Can you guess which two we met? 🎅

It's called Botnstjörn Pond, and it's surrounded by towering cliffs and lush greenery. You can also spot fascinating rock formations here, some of which resemble the faces of trolls.

Now it’s December, and the countdown to Christmas has begun! If you take a stroll through downtown Reykjavík, you might spot this legendary figure – the famous Christmas Cat (Jólakötturinn), a mysterious and fascinating part of Icelandic Christmas traditions.

The Christmas Cat is a creature in Icelandic folklore, described as a large and fearsome cat that hunts those who haven’t received new clothes for Christmas. This legend is tied to old traditions where people were rewarded with new clothes if they had worked hard throughout the year. Those who didn’t receive new clothing risked being “eaten” by the cat – a reminder of the importance of hard work and generosity during the holiday season.

Jólakötturinn is closely linked to the 13 jólalads, Iceland’s Christmas trolls, and their mother, Grýla, who is also a key figure in Icelandic Christmas mythology.

Volcanic Eruption Update:

If you’ve been following the news from Iceland, you’ve likely heard that a new volcanic eruption began on November 20 in the Sundhnúks crater series on the Reykjanes Peninsula. This is the seventh eruption in the area this year. Lava flowed toward the Blue Lagoon, reaching its parking lot and causing some damage to nearby infrastructure.

The eruption has now significantly calmed down, and the lava is cooling. There is no immediate threat to other areas. Gas emissions are still being monitored, but most of Iceland, including popular tourist attractions, remains unaffected and open as usual. If you have a trip to Iceland planned, we recommend following official updates for the latest information.🌋

There’s nothing better than sinking into hot water as the weather gets colder, don’t you agree?
This photo was taken at Mývatn Nature Baths, a serene geothermal lagoon with silky blue waters in the Mývatn area – a peaceful and less-crowded alternative to the Blue Lagoon.
